"Admission to MBA programme is based on Extempore Speech, Personal Interview and CAT 2014 score"- FMS Delhi

Group Discussion that used to form the core part of final admission round at Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi University, will no longer play any role in Personal Interview round 2015 for MBA 2015-17 batch at this top rated B school. Extempore speech of 2-3 minutes will now replace Group Discussion in Personal Interview round 2015 at FMS Delhi.

FMS Delhi one of the top rated B schools in the country will shortly be declaring the shortlist of candidates for next stage of admission round. CAT 2014 overall scores will be the criteria to shortlist the candidates for the PI round 2015.  According to Dr M L Singla, Dean FMS Delhi “We are in the process of receiving the CAT score of the applicants and will be announcing the cut-off sometime soon”.  Candidates desirous of seeking admission to MBA 2015-17 batch at FMS Delhi should now get ready as the shortlist of candidates is going to be declared by FMS Delhi on any day.

PI round at Delhi only

FMS Delhi conducts the Personal Interview round at Delhi only.  The candidates from all over the country are supposed to attend the final admission round only at one city-Delhi in accordance to the assigned date and session.

PI round to begin in March 2015

FMS Delhi is finalizing the shortlist of candidates and is expected to declare it in th month of February 2015. The next stage of admission round at FMS is proposed to begin in the month of March 2015.

No GD

According to FMS Delhi “Admission to MBA programme is based on Extempore Speech, Personal Interview and CAT 2014 score”.  Group Discussion as per the FMS admission selection process 2015 does not form part of final admission round at the B school.  Now the candidates may not need to prepare for Group Discussion round at least for MBA admission in FMS in 2015.

Extempore: Component of next stage of admission round

Doing away with GD round has not at all diluted the admission process at FMS Delhi. The candidates have now to face yet another tough component of ‘Extempore Speech’ at PI round in the admission process at FMS Delhi.

Extempore speech will have to be delivered during the Personal interview round. The candidate will be given some random topic during the course of interaction by the panelist taking interview. Around 10-15 seconds will be allowed to think on the topic and the candidate will then have to speak for about 2-3 minutes on the topic.

The extempore speech is the test of speaking skill. Clarity of thought and logical and coherent speech relevant to the topic is the key to score full marks in extempore. Whether you grasp the core of the topic and can speak without beating about the bush reaffirms your future managerial ability as a team leader

To score maximum in extempore the candidate has to organize the thoughts before speaking and should not go wayward as it will give the impression that you are trying to befool the panelists by passing the time only.

Personal Interview: Main focus round

Personal interview at FMS may last from 7 minutes to 30 minutes depending upon your knowledge, power of expression and way of speaking. On an average the interview round of a candidate consumes around 12 to 20 minutes with 2-3 panelists taking the interview. The PI will have the highest weightage in the final admission round after CAT 2014 scores.

Weightage to PI components at FMS

FMS is to award following weightage percentage to various components in final admission round before offering admission to one of the 200+ MBA seats in 2015.

CAT 2014 score: The overall percentile scored in CAT 2014 will have the maximum weightage with 85% points to arrive at the final merit list. The score of CAT 2014 will also include the academic profile and other factors which were not taken into account at the time of first stage shortlisting criteria.

Extempore speech: A maximum weightage of 5% is to be awarded for Extempore speech at final admission round in FMS.

Personal Interview: PI will be awarded a weightage of 10% in final admission round at FMS Delhi for admission 2015.
