Despite getting a call from more than one top rated IIMs, FMS, SPJIMR or other B-school, taking a decision which one to choose is tough
Before arriving at the decision, it must be clear in your mind that many top rated B-schools in non-IIM category are giving stiff quality competition to well established IIMs

Got call from more than one top rated IIMs, FMS, SPJIMR or other B-school, but taking a decision which one to opt for finally might have become a great problem and you may be stuck how to zero in with the most appropriate B-school to pursue your MBA and make your future.

Before arriving at the decision, it must be clear in your mind that many top rated B-schools in non-IIM category are giving stiff quality competition to well established IIMs. Hence, it is time for CAT 2015 high percentilers to give a serious thought while choosing among IIM Lucknow, Indore, Kozhikode, FMS Delhi, SPJIMR Mumbai, MDI Gurgaon, IMI Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad and others.  Although it is a tough decision but it has to be taken in time on merits to avoid repenting later.

Since the process of shortlisting for PGP 2016-18 programmes in 19 IIMs and other top rated B-schools has either been completed or about to be completed. While more than 50000 candidates have received PI-WAT calls from the top rated 7 IIMs and other B-schools, another 50,000 are going to be shortlisted by other top B-schools in a few days. The time has come to weigh on the B-schools and your preferences and arrive at the decision which one to choose between the two best ones or from among 4-5 most preferred ones.

Admission process and shortlisting criteria both at the IIMs and the other top B-schools are equally tough. The decision to choose the most appropriate one depends upon your future MBA plans on various parameters and past performance of these management institutes.

Take decision on Merit

The decision making is tough and need intense research if you have to decide on one among the top B schools. 3 key parameters can guide you in arriving at the decision to choose the preferred B-school for MBA/PGDM 2016-18 on the basis of high scores in CAT 2015.

-- Legacy
-- Fee structure
-- placement

Let us analyse each of these parameters

Legacy

The legacy of B-schools impacts all other parameters and helps expand the alumni base.

IIM Lucknow is 4th in the family of IIMs. Established in 1984 it has a campus of 190 acres. IIML has also established its satellite campus for Executive Education in Noida in 2005.

IIM Indore and IIM Kozhikode both were established in the year 1996. While IIM Indore has one more campus at Mumbai, IIM Kozhikode has established a satellite campus at Kochi for executive Education.
FMS Delhi started in 1954 is one the oldest and top ranked B-schools in India. It is the department of management studies of University of Delhi.

SPJIMR Mumbai was established in 1981. Earlier it was affiliated to University of Mumbai but to improve on its course curriculum, pedagogic innovations it got disaffiliated from Mumbai University. The B-school is highly ranked and one of the most preferred ones.

MDI, Gurgaon, established in 1973 is a private management institute which has become a synonym of consistent growth and is one of most sought after B-schools in India.

IMI Delhi is India’s first corporate sponsored B-school which was established in 1981 in collaboration with International Management Institute, Geneva (now IMD Lausanne).

Compare Fee structure
This is one of the key factors to decide on the right B-school. The fee structure for management programme 2016-18 is lowest at FMS Delhi and so far none of the top rated B-schools has been able to go for such high ROI and low fee.  Let us compare the 2 year fee structure among these B-schools

FMS Delhi 2 year MBA: Rs 20000/- (0.2 lakhs)
IIM Lucknow 2 year PGP: Rs. 11 lakhs
IIM Indore 2 year PGP: Rs. 13 lakhs
IIM Kozhikode 2 year PGP: Rs. 10 lakhs
IMI Delhi 2 year PGDM: Rs.14.96 lakhs
MDI Gurgaon 2 year PGPM: Rs.17.15 lakhs
SPJIMR Mumbai 2 year PGDM: Rs.14.50 lakhs

Compare Placement
Average salary for the flagship programmes as per Placement 2015 at these highly ranked B-schools is as follows

FMS Delhi: Rs.17.04 lakhs
IIM Lucknow: (100% placement but not shared average placement)
IIM Indore: Rs. 14.3 lakhs
IIM Kozhikode: Rs. 14.92 lakhs
IMI Delhi: Rs. 14.96 lakhs
MDI Gurgaon: Rs. 18.86 lakhs
SPJIMR Mumbai: Rs. 18.2 lakhs

Going by the above facts and figures as well as other USPs of these B schools, if it is not necessary to go by the brand IIM only, you may opt for other top B schools also. Some of these B schools like FMS Delhi will award weightage to sectional scores like IIMs in CAT 2015 for shortlisting the candidates while SPJIMR considers profile based shortlisting. MDI, IMI, propose to consider overall score in CAT 2015. In all the cases one thing is common that the applicants have to take the decision by considering all the facts and not just one or two.
