CAT 2017: Assistance to Disabled PWD candidates; request option open till Sept 30

CAT 2017 exam convener Prof Neeraj Dwivedi, faculty at IIM Lucknow has announced a series of assistance measures for PWD candidates. The option to request assistance for PwD candidates will be available from 27th to 30th Sept 2017 on the CAT 2017 website and the already registered PWD category candidates can exercise it by login with their existing CAT 2017 ID and password.

Many aspirant friendly facilities for PWD candidates in the registration process and at the exam centre are announced by IIM Lucknow to facilitate smooth and glitch free test for PWD candidates in terms of their access to test centre, seating arrangement among others.

While the option to avail facilities at exam centre will have to be filled up on CAT 2017 website from September 27 to September 30, 2017 the other facilities will be available at the CAT 2017 test venue on November 26, when the PWD candidates arrive at the exam centre.

Request option open now
The range of facilities and assistance will include option of using a scribe, request for a wheelchair, request to enable the zoom feature.  This request option is available from September 27 to September 30, 2017.

A candidate may ask for the Scribe Assistance, may request a wheel chair or may ask the CAT 2017 exam centre to enable the zoom feature, if he/she thinks it would be difficult to view the exam or question details in the current format on the computer screen. However all these assistance requirements are to be filled in during September 27 to September 30 as the Assistance Tab remains open during these 4 days.

Specific Assistance at CAT 2017 test venue
On November 26, 2017 following assistance and facilities will be provided to PWD CAT 2017 test takers – before and during the exam

Priority Access to test venue
On the CAT 2017 test day, PWD candidates will be given priority access - 15 minutes before permitting other candidates to the test venue for test registration.

Test centre equipped with wheel chair
Every CAT test center, assigned to PWD candidates going to appear in CAT 2017, will have a fully functional wheelchair available for any candidate who may need mobility assistance, announces IIM Lucknow

Alternate Questions with same LoD
For purely visual questions like graphs, pictures, or maps, alternate questions of equal difficulty will be provided for candidates with visual disability. If a candidate is unable to attempt the former type of questions, he/she will be allowed to attempt the alternate questions.

Testing Assistance
The approved means for CAT 2017 testing assistance are:

Wheel Chair Locomotive Disability/Cerebral Palsy Test Center, on request in Application Form
Magnifying Screen Visually Impaired Test Centre on request(System In built feature)
Scribe/Reader Visually Impaired/ Cerebral Palsy Candidate

Please note that the PWD candidates suffering from low vision/blindness/cerebral palsy will be allowed to bring a scribe.

1 Hour extra time
PWD candidates will receive a time extension during the CAT 2017 examination. PWD candidates with or without Scribe requirement will be given a time extension of 20 minutes per section in CAT 2017 exam, which comes to a total extension of one hour for the full test.

It means PWD candidates will have 80 minutes to attempt each section, while the other candidates will have 60 minutes per section.

PWD Coordinator
Last year CAT exam had a PWD coordinator at each CAT exam centre. IIM Bangalore had taken this initiative and assigned a PWD coordinator to assist the PWD candidates  at each CAT exam centre. The contact details of the PWD coordinator was also provided to the candidates prior to the test.

For CAT 2017 exam this facility is expected to continue. And the PWD candidates may have the contact details of their coordinator before the testing day. They can contact the coordinator when they arrive at the test centre. The PWD coordinator will provide all the necessary assistance and help to the PWD candidates to have access to their test lab and the assigned testing seat.

Apart from these, CAT 2017 convener Prof Dwivedi has announced several initiatives with more facilities for Person With Disability (PWD) candidates so that they have smooth testing process on the CAT day.

CAT 2017 exam will be held on Sunday November 26, 2017 in 2 sessions of 3 hours duration each in 144 test cities and more than 650 testing venues. IIM Lucknow is convening CAT 2017 with TCS as partnering testing agency.
