IIM Nagpur, IIM Jammu, IIM Sirmaur will be offering you admission letter without the GD-PI process for the 2017-19 batch. All you have to do is to reconfirm your interest in these 3 newest IIMs, when you receive the mail from them.

 

If you had opted for IIM Nagpur, IIM Jammu, IIM Sirmaur alongwith other IIMs at the time of filling up your CAT 2016 registration form, and are found eligible to be shortlisted by these IIMs, you will get the mail to reconfirm your interest from each of the 7 newest IIMs. You will need to revert on the mail by confirming your interest to the respective IIM to be considered for final admission by them. The final merit list by IIM Nagpur, IIM Jammu and IIM Sirmaur is expected to be announced in the middle of May 2017.

 

3 Out of 7 IIMs participated in CAP 2017

Out of 7 newest IIMs that started maiden PGP batch in 2015, IIM Amritsar, IIM BodhGaya and IIM Sambalpur participated in the WAT & PI round of Common Admission Process (CAP) 2017 coordinated by IIM Rohtak for 9 IIMs. The CAP 2017 was held from 2nd week of February to 1st week of March, 2017.

 

While IIM Visakhapatnam has already announced that it will conduct its own WAT and PI round, rest 3 IIMs namely IIM Sirmaur, IIM Nagpur and IIM Jammu did not participate in CAP 2016 and propose to make final admission offer directly on the basis of your CAT 2016 scores, Academic profile and work experience.

 

With your academic profile, you may get admission to one of the 3 IIMs at a reduced qualifying overall and sectional CAT 2016 percentile score.

 

IIM Nagpur: Admission Criteria without Interview

IIM Nagpur has clarified that on a scale of 100 total score weightage in its admission criteria, it has not assigned any weightage to Personal Interview round for admission to 2017-19 batch. With effect from April 21, IIM Nagpur has started asking the candidates who opted for IIM Nagpur while registering and applying for CAT 2016 and have scored required percentile in the exam to express and confirm their interest in IIM Nagpur.

 

According to IIM Nagpur ‘The candidates who had applied to PGP at IIM Nagpur at the time of CAT-2016 registration and also meet the cut-offs, would be receiving an email from IIM Nagpur by 21st April, 2017. These candidates will be provided a link to a webpage where they MUST express and reconfirm their desire to pursue their candidature further for the admission to PGP in management at IIM Nagpur by a stipulated date.’

 

IIM Nagpur proposes to finalize its selection process without GD-PI round but academic performance and work experience will be awarded due weightage by the B-school before generating final admission offer to 60 candidates.

 

There are only 3 components which will be taken into account while finalizing admission merit list at IIM Nagpur as shared by the B-school ‘The admission process at IIM Nagpur takes into account the candidate's Past Academic Performance (PAP), Work Experience (WE), and performance in CAT’

 

Phase-1: Shortlist based on CAT 2016 scores

IIM Nagpur has shared ‘The following cut-offs shown in Table 1 will be used for selecting eligible candidates for all subsequent stages. Therefore, the CAT-2016 score is the single criterion used as the basis for arriving at the first short-list’

Phase-2: Final Selection

50% weightage to CAT 2016 score

IIM Nagpur while finalizing the merit list will award 50% weightage to CAT 2016 scores.

 

30% weight to Past Academic Performance

30% weightage will be awarded to the past academic performance (PAP). The applicants who have obtained above 90% marks in class X and XII and above 70% in Engineering & Technology and 65% and above in other disciplines in bachelor’s degree examination will be awarded full weightage of 10 points for each academic standard.

After arriving at the total PAP scores, IIM Nagpur will adopt the following formula to finalize the rating score for academics – PAP = (0.25*A+0.35*B+0.40*C)/10

Where, Rating score: A=class X; B=class 12; C=bachelor’s degree

 

20% weight to Work Experience (WE)

20% weightage will be awarded for the work experience of completed months x till the time of CAT 2016 registration. No weightage will be awarded for the period of work experience after close of CAT 2016 registration process. The candidates will be assigned a WE score using the following formula:

WE = 0 for x < 6; WE = 0 for x > 60; WE = x/30 for 6 <= x <= 30; WE = 1 - ((x-30)/30) for 30 < x <= 60

 

Phase-3: Final admission offer

According to IIM Nagpur ‘The selected candidates will receive provisional admission intimation by e-mail. They will have to accept and confirm the offer online on IIM Nagpur website and pay an acceptance fee of Rs. 50,000 which will be adjusted towards Term I fees subsequently.’  

 

Since no weightage is assigned to GD-PI-WAT, candidates can expect to get admission offer from IIM Nagpur on the basis of the parameters as under-

 

CAT 2016 Score: 50% weight

Past Academic performance (PAP): 30% weight

Work Experience: 20% weight

 

IIM Jammu announces direct admission

IIM Jammu in the State of J&K has categorically announced ‘Please note that there will be no interviews for the selection to the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) this year. All students who have opted for IIM Jammu during the registration process of CAT 2016 will be considered for preparing the merit list for final selection. There is no need to apply to the institute separately. The merit list is expected to be released in the last week of May’ 2017.’

 

IIM Jammu is the 20th IIM established by Ministry of HRD, Government of India and is operated from the Old University campus in Jammu with effect from September 5, 2016. IIM Jammu is mentored by IIM Lucknow which ensures to offer best learning experience from the IIM Lucknow faculty.

IIM Sirmaur: No GD-PI round in admission 2017-19

IIM Sirmaur mentored by IIM Lucknow has announced that the final admission process will not include GD/PI round and the offers for PGP 2017-19 batch will be made only on the basis of CAT 2016 scores and profile of the candidate.  

 

According to the admission notification released by IIM Sirmaur ‘Please note that there will be no interviews for the selection to the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) this year. All students who have opted for IIM Sirmaur during the registration process of CAT 2016 will be considered for preparing the merit list for final selection.There is no need to apply to the institute separately. The merit list is expected to be released in the last week of May' 2017.’ IIM Sirmaur will begin asking in May 2017 the candidates to express their interest for admission.

For the admission to its 1st batch in 2015, IIM Sirmaur had announced 96.3 percentile in CAT as the minimum qualifying score for admission. It was reduced to 80 in last year admission process which still continues this year.

 

If you have scored less than 85 or 90 percentile in CAT 2016 and have not been shortlisted for CAP 2017 for 9 IIMs or have not received any communication from any IIM, you can expect to be shortlisted by newest IIMs  till May 2017. Your dream of studying in an IIM may become a reality even with low scores in CAT exam.
