Two years at an IIM can cost as little as ₹17.90 lakh or as much as ₹27.50 lakh, a gap of nearly ₹10 lakh. IIMs with lowest fees for the 2026-28 batch are IIM Rohtak (₹17.90 lakh), IIM Bodh Gaya (₹17.96 lakh) and IIM Guwahati (₹18 lakh). IIMs with highest fees are the legacy IIMs: IIM Ahmedabad is the most expensive at ₹27.50 lakh, with IIM Bangalore, and IIM Calcutta all in the ₹25–27 lakh band. New IIMs fees differ widely. So what is IIM fees for MBA through CAT, and why does the same two-year programme fees vary so widely? This MBAUniverse.com guide lays out the official IIM fee structure for all 22 IIMs in India, drawn from the IIM official data, and shows exactly what each fee covers. It also compares the IIM fees against the IIM placements to report IIMs with the best ROI.

IIM fees 2027 at a glance
Twenty-one of the 22 IIMs have published an official fee document that MBAUniverse.com has verified. The headline picture for the 2026-28 batch is a three-tier market. The newest and smaller IIM campuses fees cluster between ₹17.90 lakh and ₹21 lakh. The established second and third-generation IIMs sit between ₹21 lakh and ₹24 lakh. The older IIMs — Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta and Mumbai — occupy a band from ₹25 lakh upwards.
Three points are worth appreciating before you read the comparison table.
First, the fee year matters. Not every IIM has released a 2026-28 structure. IIM Ahmedabad’s published figure is for 2025-27 and the institute states explicitly that the fee for future batches will be announced later. IIM Ranchi fees is for year 2025-27. IIM Shillong fees is still older for 2024-26. Comparing those against a genuine 2026-28 figure understates them.
Second, the fees number is not what you pay. Almost every IIM charges a refundable caution deposit on top, and most charge mess advances separately. IIM Rohtak’s ₹17.90 lakh becomes roughly ₹20.5 lakh once mess, placement facility charges, development charges, alumni membership and caution money are added.
Third, what the fee includes varies enormously. IIM Bangalore’s ₹26 lakh covers tuition, library, internet, case permission royalty, course material, hostel room rent, medical insurance, personal accident insurance and alumni activity. IIM Nagpur’s ₹21 lakh explicitly excludes mess and food. These are not comparable numbers dressed in the same units.

IIM Ahmedabad | ₹27,50,000 | 2025-27 |
Notes on the table. IIM Indore’s ₹24,00,000 is the course fee at ₹12,00,000 per academic year; the grand total including the refundable caution deposit of ₹50,000 and the mess deposit of ₹54,000 is ₹25,15,800. IIM Rohtak’s ₹17,90,000 is total charges before mess, placement facility charges, development charges, alumni membership and caution money. IIM Calcutta has published no domestic fee document — see the dedicated section below.
IIMs with the highest fees
IIM Ahmedabad is the most expensive IIM in India. The IIM Ahmedabad MBA fees was ₹27,50,000 for the PGP 2025-27 batch, of which tuition is ₹20,10,000. The programme fee excludes personal expenses on boarding, laptop, travel, clothes, stationery and laundry, and every student must have a personal computer. On the MBAUniverse.com fee series, IIM Ahmedabad has moved from ₹25.00 lakh for 2023-25 to ₹26.50 lakh for 2024-26 to ₹27.50 lakh for 2025-27 — a rise of ₹2.50 lakh, or 10%, across two cycles.
IIM Calcutta has the second highest fees amongst IIMs at ₹27,00,000 for the 2025-27 batch. That number requires a caveat, and it is an important one. It comes from the MBAUniverse.com Rankings 2026 fee analysis, not from an IIM Calcutta fee notification. The institute’s own fee document in the collection covers overseas students only, at USD 65,000 for two years including hostel.
IIM Shillong appears at ₹26,18,000, but that is the 2024-26 schedule, the only one the institute has published in the collection.
IIM Bangalore completes the top group at ₹26,00,000 for 2026-28, plus a one-time ₹30,000 caution deposit and a mess advance of ₹30,000 each term.
IIMs with the lowest fees
The three lowest IIM fees for 2026-28 sit within ₹10,000 of one another, which makes the ordering less meaningful than the band itself.
IIM Rohtak at ₹17,90,000 is the lowest headline figure, split evenly across the two years at ₹8,95,000 each, with terms running ₹3,55,000 then ₹2,70,000 then ₹2,70,000. Read the footnotes though: mess is ₹48,000 a year, placement facility charges are ₹40,000, development charge is ₹10,000 a year, alumni membership ₹6,500 and refundable caution money ₹10,000. The realistic all-in figure is closer to ₹20.5 lakh.
IIM Bodh Gaya at ₹17,96,000 has held its fee flat — the 2026-28 structure for the 12th batch is identical to the 2025-27 structure. Its fee is unusually transparent, itemising tuition at ₹1,60,000 a term, hostel rent at ₹41,000 and academic charges at ₹80,000, with separate lines for admission, annual registration, student activity, career development, alumni activity and convocation.
IIM Guwahati at ₹18,00,000 is the most interesting entry. India’s 22nd IIM was inaugurated on 14 February 2026 and its first MBA batch is 2026-28. Its fee covers tuition, accommodation and an advance collection of mess charges adjusted against actuals, with only a ₹15,000 refundable caution deposit on top. Among institutes with a genuine 2026-28 fee document, that is the most inclusive package at the lowest price.
For candidates specifically searching for IIMs with low fees, the practical shortlist for 2026-28 is Rohtak, Bodh Gaya, Guwahati, Amritsar and Tiruchirappalli. They all at or below ₹19.50 lakh.
What the IIM fee actually includes
This is where headline comparisons break down. The table below sets out what the fee covers at institutes that itemise it.

IIM Kozhikode | Tuition, admission, IT infrastructure and miscellaneous, library, hostel, books and study material, student activities, orientation, student support, workshops, examination, alumni |
IIM Guwahati | Tuition, accommodation, and an advance collection of mess charges adjusted against actuals |
IIM Jammu | Tuition plus academic support, library, hostel, IT infrastructure, student welfare, alumni and health insurance |

What IIM Fees does not cover: Food, laptop and travel
Food or Mess is the single largest recurring cost sitting outside most IIM fee structures, and it varies more than you might expect.
IIM Bangalore: ₹30,000 mess advance each term
IIM Ranchi: ₹28,350 per term, subject to revision
IIM Guwahati: ₹18,000 per term, adjusted against actuals
IIM Bodh Gaya: ₹26,000 with Term I, then ₹21,000 per term, varying with vendor charges
IIM Sambalpur: ₹69,000 per year, explicitly subject to the service provider’s charges
IIM Rohtak: ₹48,000 per year
IIM Raipur: ₹16,620 per trimester, plus medical insurance at ₹1,500 yearly
IIM Amritsar: ₹75,000 per year, with actual expenses adjusted against the deposit and excess refunded annually
IIM Kozhikode: ₹40,000 per term towards mess and students’ activities, refunded after each term based on actual consumption
IIM Mumbai adds a requirement other institutes do not: under institute norms, students must pay mess fees one full year in advance.
For PGP-Finance and PGP-LSM students at IIM Kozhikode, all International Immersion Programme expenses — travel, accommodation and food — are borne by the student and sit entirely outside the ₹23.50 lakh fee.
Caution deposits and refundable components
Every caution deposit in the table below is refundable at the end of the programme after adjustment of dues. It is working capital you will not see again for two years, so it belongs in your loan calculation even though it is not a cost.
IIM | Caution deposit |
|---|---|
IIM Jammu | ₹50,000 |
IIM Nagpur | ₹50,000 |
IIM Indore | ₹50,000 |
IIM Amritsar | ₹50,000, within the ₹1,00,000 admission acceptance fee |
IIM Visakhapatnam | ₹40,000 |
IIM Bangalore | ₹30,000 |
IIM Raipur | ₹30,000 |
IIM Tiruchirappalli | ₹30,000 |
IIM Kozhikode | ₹25,000, plus ₹2,000 Students’ Welfare Fund |
IIM Bodh Gaya | ₹25,000 |
IIM Sambalpur | ₹20,000 |
IIM Udaipur | ₹20,000, refundable in all cases |
IIM Ranchi | ₹20,000 |
IIM Guwahati | ₹15,000 |
IIM Rohtak | ₹10,000 |
IIM Kashipur | ₹9,000 |
IIM Offer Acceptance Fees
Offer acceptance fees are a different matter. Most IIMs charge ₹1,00,000 on accepting an offer and adjust it against the Term I fee — Raipur, Nagpur, Udaipur and Amritsar all follow this pattern. IIM Ranchi charges ₹1,10,000. IIM Guwahati and IIM Sambalpur charge ₹50,000. This is not an extra cost, but it is a requirement that lands months before the programme begins.
How IIM fees have moved across recent batches
The MBAUniverse.com Rankings 2026 fee analysis tracks seven of the older IIMs across three batches. It is the clearest picture available of the direction of travel.
IIM | 2023-25 | 2024-26 | 2025-27 |
|---|---|---|---|
IIM Ahmedabad | ₹25.00 lakh | ₹26.50 lakh | ₹27.50 lakh |
IIM Bangalore | ₹24.70 lakh | ₹26.50 lakh | ₹26.50 lakh |
IIM Calcutta | ₹25.00 lakh | Not available | ₹27.00 lakh |
IIM Lucknow | ₹20.75 lakh | ₹20.75 lakh | ₹20.75 lakh |
IIM Mumbai | ₹14.63 lakh | ₹21.00 lakh | ₹21.00 lakh |
IIM Indore | ₹21.17 lakh | ₹21.17 lakh | ₹21.17 lakh |
IIM Kozhikode | ₹20.50 lakh | ₹20.50 lakh | ₹23.50 lakh |
Three patterns stand out.
IIM Scholarships and Financial Aid
IIM Bangalore operates the most fully documented scheme in the collection. Every PGP student with annual household income below ₹8,00,000 may apply. A two-stage process scores annual gross household income, household savings, real estate assets and other assets, then shortlists candidates for a faculty panel interaction that assesses need and verifies the application. Awards are made at 100%, 80%, 60%, 40% or 20% of fees. Alongside need-based aid, IIMB students access the Aditya Birla Scholarship at ₹1.75 lakh per student, the OPJEMS Scholarship at ₹1.50 lakh, the NTPC Scholarship Scheme at ₹48,000 a year for SC, ST and PwD second-years, an Employment in Social Sector Scholarship that reimburses one-third of fees for each of the first three years working in the social sector, and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment national scholarships, which cover tuition in full.
IIM Shillong offers the Top Class Scholarship for SC Students from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and its own Need Base Financial Assistance scheme.
IIM Visakhapatnam publishes the most useful transparency of any IIM here — an actual history of how many students received aid and how much. In 2023-25, 7.73% of the batch received financial aid averaging 43.88% of tuition, and 7% received external scholarships averaging 65%. The peak year was 2021-23, when 22.75% of the batch received aid.
Most IIMs say that financial institutions and commercial banks provide loans at concessional rates. The institute endeavours to facilitate the process, but it is not directly involved. Students should approach banks directly.
Fee versus salary: how to read the return
Comparing IIM fee against placement average is the most useful thing you can do with these numbers. Check table below with the caveats alongside.
IIM | Total fee | Batch | Reported average CTC | Placement batch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
IIM Ahmedabad | ₹27.50 lakh | 2025-27 | ₹35.22 lakh | 2023-25 |
IIM Calcutta | ₹27.00 lakh | 2025-27 | ₹36.00 lakh | 2024-26 |
IIM Bangalore | ₹26.00 lakh | 2026-28 | ₹35.35 lakh | 2024-26 |
IIM Lucknow | ₹20.75 lakh | 2026-28 | ₹33.20 lakh | 2024-26 |
IIM Mumbai | ₹25.00 lakh | Two-year | ₹31.40 lakh | 2024-26 |
IIM Indore | ₹24.00 lakh | 2026-28 | ₹29.57 lakh | 2023-25 |
IIM Kozhikode | ₹23.50 lakh | 2026-28 | ₹28.18 lakh | 2023-25 |
IIM Shillong | ₹26.18 lakh | 2024-26 | ₹27.03 lakh | 2024-26 |
IIM Rohtak | ₹17.90 lakh | 2026-28 | ₹20.03 lakh | 2024-26 |
IIM Ranchi | ₹19.20 lakh | 2025-27 | ₹19.26 lakh | 2025-26 |
IIM Raipur | ₹20.08 lakh | 2026-28 | ₹18.83 lakh | 2023-25 |
IIM Tiruchirappalli | ₹19.50 lakh | 2026-28 | ₹18.00 lakh | 2024-26, unaudited |
IIM Jammu | ₹22.81 lakh | 2026-28 | ₹16.04 lakh | 2024-26 |
IIM Sambalpur | ₹21.13 lakh | 2026-28 | ₹15.65 lakh | 2023-25 |
IIM Visakhapatnam | ₹23.59 lakh | 2026-28 | ₹15.72 lakh | 2024-26 |
IIM Kashipur | ₹20.80 lakh | 2026-28 | ₹14.95 lakh | 2023-25 |
IIM Bodh Gaya | ₹17.96 lakh | 2026-28 | ₹14.80 lakh | 2024-26 |
IIM Sirmaur | ₹21.00 lakh | 2026-28 | ₹13.30 lakh | 2024-25 |
Candidates should read this table carefully. Fee years and placement years do not align, because institutes publish on different cycles. A 2026-28 fee against a 2023-25 placement average compares a cost you will pay in 2027 with a salary somebody earned in 2025. The ratio is indicative, not predictive. IIM Guwahati has no placement data because its first batch graduates in 2028.
Where fee and outcome diverge most
Three institutes stand out when you set fee against reported outcome, and they are worth naming because this is precisely the analysis an aspirant needs and rarely gets.
IIM Lucknow is the clearest value proposition among the older IIMs. Its ₹20.75 lakh fee has not moved across three batches, while its 2024-26 batch reported an average of ₹33.20 lakh, a median of ₹32.90 lakh and a highest domestic package of ₹1 crore. That is top-tier outcome at second-tier cost.
IIM Rohtak shows the same shape at a different scale. A ₹17.90 lakh headline fee against a ₹20.03 lakh average is a ratio few institutes match, and its 213 recruiters for the 2024-26 batch is a solid participation figure.
IIM Visakhapatnam runs the other way. At ₹23.59 lakh it is the seventh most expensive IIM with a 2026-28 fee document, while its reported average of ₹15.72 lakh sits in the lower third. On NIRF 2025 it ranks 29th and on MBAUniverse.com Rankings 2026 it ranks 29th, having climbed three places. The fee is high relative to the outcome the institute currently reports.
How ranking, fee and outcome fit together
Fee is one input. Rank is another. Neither on its own should decide a shortlist.
IIM | NIRF 2025 | MBAU 2026 | Total fee |
|---|---|---|---|
IIM Ahmedabad | 1 | 1 | ₹27.50 lakh |
IIM Bangalore | 2 | 2 | ₹26.00 lakh |
IIM Kozhikode | 3 | 6 | ₹23.50 lakh |
IIM Lucknow | 5 | 5 | ₹20.75 lakh |
IIM Mumbai | 6 | 7 | ₹25.00 lakh |
IIM Calcutta | 7 | 3 | ₹27.50 lakh |
IIM Indore | 8 | 9 | ₹24.00 lakh |
IIM Raipur | 15 | 24 | ₹20.08 lakh |
IIM Tiruchirappalli | 16 | 20 | ₹19.50 lakh |
IIM Ranchi | 18 | 18 | ₹19.20 lakh |
IIM Rohtak | 19 | Not ranked | ₹17.90 lakh |
IIM Udaipur | 21 | 22 | ₹21.51 lakh |
IIM Kashipur | 23 | 25 | ₹20.80 lakh |
IIM Nagpur | 25 | 26 | ₹21.00 lakh |
IIM Visakhapatnam | 29 | 29 | ₹23.59 lakh |
IIM Bodh Gaya | 31 | Not ranked | ₹17.96 lakh |
IIM Sambalpur | 34 | 31 | ₹21.13 lakh |
IIM Jammu | 35 | Not ranked | ₹22.81 lakh |
IIM Shillong | 38 | 13 | ₹26.18 lakh |
IIM Sirmaur | 51 | 40 | ₹21.00 lakh |
IIM Amritsar | 64 | 37 | ₹19.50 lakh |
IIM Guwahati | Not ranked | Not ranked | ₹18.00 lakh |
How to decide whether an IIM fee is worth it
Work through four questions in order.
What is the all-in number? Take the programme fee, add mess for six terms, add the caution deposit as working capital, then add the personal expenses your chosen institute excludes. For most IIMs this adds ₹2 lakh to ₹3.5 lakh to the headline.
What is the realistic outcome, not the headline one? The highest package at any IIM goes to one or two students. Median is a better guide than average, because a handful of very large offers pulls the average up. Where an institute publishes both, the gap tells you how concentrated the outcomes are: IIM Bangalore’s median of ₹34.75 lakh against an average of ₹35.35 lakh is a tight distribution; IIM Sambalpur’s median of ₹15.03 lakh against a highest offered CTC of ₹48.60 lakh is not.
Is the fee current? If the only published figure is two batches old, expect it to rise. IIM Shillong’s ₹26.18 lakh is a 2024-26 number and should be treated as a floor.
Does the institute disclose enough for you to judge? Some IIMs publish audited placement reports under the Indian Placement Reporting Standards — IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Udaipur among them. Others publish top-slice figures only. IIM Amritsar, for example, publishes the average for its top 50 students and its top 50% of the batch, but no whole-batch average at all. That is a disclosure choice, and it is reasonable to factor it into your decision.
Summary
IIM fees for 2026-28 run from ₹17.90 lakh at IIM Rohtak to ₹27.50 lakh at IIM Ahmedabad, with IIM Calcutta above the range at ₹27.50 lakh on a secondary source. Twenty-one of the 22 IIMs have published an official fee document, and the pattern across them is clear: the newest campuses are competitive on price, IIM Lucknow and IIM Indore have held fees flat across three batches while peers have raised them, and the gap between fee and reported placement outcome varies far more than rank alone would suggest. Before you commit, build the all-in figure rather than the headline, check which batch your fee figure belongs to, and read median alongside average.
