IIM Calcutta delayed its final admission result 2020 for the MBA 2020-22 batch considering the nationwide lockdown due to corona virus. Now, that the institute has released the final merit list for admission 2020, the candidates who have been selected by IIM Calcutta can proceed to finalise their admission by paying the offer acceptance fee before the last date.

Only PI Score Considered, Not WAT
IIM Calcutta initially conducted WAT and PI round in person. The candidates physically participated in the process. Later on, due to Corona Virus lockdown, the institute decided to conduct the Personal Interview online. As such, it was not possible to conduct the Written Ability Test (WAT) online and the weightage given to WAT was dropped from being taken into account in preparing the final merit list of the selected candidates.

Considering the nationwide lockdown due to corona virus, IIM Calcutta conducted the further final selection process online only. The candidates were allowed to be present on virtual platform in the formal dress suitable for the personal interview.

Clarifying on the selection process, IIM Calcutta said, “Because of the health hazards due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and following government advisories, the Institute has decided not to consider the weightage given for WAT for the final selection of MBA 2020-22 batch. This is to maintain the fairness and consistency of the admissions process for all candidates appeared for interview in-person or through online platform.”

Graduation Marks Considered in Selection Process
In a major change in its admission policy for MBA 2020-22 batch, IIM Calcutta has awarded 15% weightage to graduation marks in the selection criteria for shortlisting applicants for the interview round on the lines of other top IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Lucknow who provide 10-20% weightage to graduation marks.

Final Merit List Out of 90 Marks
Writing Ability Test (WAT) in final admission round at IIM Calcutta commands 10% weightage. This weightage was not given to any candidate and the final merit list is released out of a composite score of 90 instead of 100 earlier.

Selected Candidates Informed by Email
After releasing the final result for MBA 2020-22 admissions, IIM Calcutta is intimating the selected candidates directly by email.

Academic Session 2020-21
IIM Calcutta is expected to commence the academic session on August 1, 2020. The institute will initially conduct classes in online mode and will make best use of technology to keep the students well connected and productive.

Since majority of the students considered for admission in IIM Calcutta are from engineering back ground and most of the engineering colleges including IITs have not been able to conclude their last semester exams, it is very much possible that session commencement may be delayed at IIM Calcutta.

In view of Dr Anju Seth, Director of IIM Calcutta the Academic calendar of the institute may change for various programmes.

Classes to Begin in Online Mode
IIM Calcutta is planning to commence the academic session with online classes. The institute is well prepared to switch from offline class room teaching to online virtual class rooms by using best digital platforms. Dr Seth has emphasized, “We have expedited a successful transition to new models of online teaching in our programmes.”
