IIM Indore Admission 2021

IIM Indore has released its Admission policy for 2021-23 batch and prescribes high weightage of 74% to the Class X and XII marks in shortlisting the candidates for final selection round. The minimum requirement to qualify for shortlisting process for PI round is CAT 2020 sectional score of 80 percentile and 90 overall percentile. IIM Indore is the first among the 20 IIMs which has announced such a high weightage to academics in shortlisting criteria.

Another key feature in the IIM Indore admission process 2021 is the low weightage announced for CAT 2020 score. Only 20% weightage in shortlisting and in generating final merit list will be given to CAT 2020 score in admission 2021 by IIM Indore. The very purpose of keeping the CAT 2020 score weightage low is to improve the academic and gender diversity in IIM Indore Classrooms. After implementation of IIM Act 2017, the PGP students at IIM Indore are awarded the MBA degree instead of diploma. IIM Indore provides a broad array of programmes, formats and locations (Indore and Mumbai) to meet diverse needs for management education.

For admission to the PGP 2021-23 batch, applicants are required to qualify in CAT 2020. Overseas candidates may however, apply with GMAT scores. IIM  Indore is led by its Director, Prof. Himanshu Rai, who took charge as the Director of IIM Indore on December 31, 2018. Prior to this he taught at IIM Lucknow. Before that he was the Dean, MISB Bocconi (India Campus of Bocconi, Milan). Professor Rai is an alumnus of IIM, Ahmedabad (IIMA). His core area is Human Resource Management. He has earlier taught in the HR area at XLRI Jamshedpur and had worked over 8 years at Tata Steel where he played a pivotal role in developing Quality Systems and the Communication Policy for the Company. Prof Rai conducts training programmes and workshops for executives as well as bureaucrats and has trained over 20,000 professionals. He has helped Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie to develop a training module on “Ethics and Anti-Corruption Strategies” for all Indian Administrative Services officers across career phases. He provides strategic consultancy to the Government of India and has audited programs sponsored by the Planning Commission of India.

IIM Indore CAT Score Cut offs
Announcing its CAT 2020 cut offs at 90 percentile in CAT exam, the admission criteria for flagship PGP 2021-23 at IIM Indore will award only 20% weightage to CAT 2020 scores and 74% weight to Class 10 & 12 marks.Rest goes to other parameters in shortlisting for PI-WAT stage.

So far, among all the IIMs who have announced their admission criteria and process for the 2021-23 batch, IIM Indore is the front runner in drastically reducing the weightage to CAT 2020 exam score in its admission process. The move will attract more candidates with excellent academic profile below graduation than only focusing on the CAT 2020 scores.

IIM Indore Admission Criteria
IIM Indore Admission Criteria 2021 is a three step process. The three-stages of selection criteria are:

  1.  Eligibility criteria
  2.  Shortlisting Criteria for Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI)
  3. Final Admission Selection criteria

 IIM Indore Admission Eligibility

  1. IIM  Indore Eligibility criteria require that the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration after class 12, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category, the eligibility criterion is relaxed to 45%
  2. One of the most important points in IIM Indore Admission Eligibility criteria is that apart from a recognized graduate degree, the candidate should appear in CAT 2020 exam and must score minimum prescribed sectional and overall score to become eligible for admission
  3. If the candidate is awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence to determine PGP admission eligibility would be based on the equivalence certified by the institution/university from where the bachelor's degree is obtained. In case the institution/university does not have any scheme for converting the CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by IIM Indore by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant by 100 to confirm the Admission eligibility of the candidate.
  4. A candidate appearing for the final year bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results is also eligible to apply for IIM Indore Admission 2021. Such a candidate must produce a certificate from the principal/head of the department/ registrar/director of the institution/university certifying that the candidate is currently in the final year or is awaiting final results and has obtained at least 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category) based on latest available grades/marks.
  5. IIM Indore Eligibility further clarifies that such a candidate, if selected, will not be eligible for the IIM Indore admission unless he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2021 from the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university (issued on or before June 30, 2021) stating that they have completed all the requirements (the result may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate.
  6. It is mandatory for a final year student, who is provisionally considered eligible by IIM Indore and offered admission, to submit the mark-sheet and degree certificate of the final year bachelor's degree examination held on or before June 30, 2021.  The deadline to submit the mark-sheet and the certificate is December 31, 2021.
