NIRF Management Rankings 2021: IIMA #1, IIMK jumps to #4; Many Ups, Downs & Surprises; Amity, LPU before many IIMs?

NIRF Management Ranking 2021was released on September 9, 2021 by Hon’ble Minister of HRD Shri Dharmendra Pradhan. IIM Ahmedabad has retained its top position followed by IIM Bangalore which is again placed as number two. IIM Kozhikode has replaced IIM Lucknow and has jumped upwards to 4th place from 6th place last year. There are many ups and downs and a few surprises in this year’s rankings. NIRF Ranking 2021: Key Highlights
  • IIM  Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta retain their top positions with IIMA #1; IIMB #2; IIM Calcutta #3
Top 10 Gainers in NIRF Ranking 2021
  1. IIM Kozhikode has improved its position and is placed at 4th position this year from 6th place last year.
  2. DMS IIT Delhi has gone up by 3 places to capture 5th place this year, from the  8th place last year
  3. IIM Indore moves up at 6th position this year from 7th last year
  4. XLRI Jamshedpur has moved up to 8th position from 9th last year
  5. IIM Raipur moves up at 15th position from 19th last year
  6. IMI New Delhi has gained two places and is ranked at 26th position this year as against 28th  last year
  7. IIM Shillong has moved up at 23rd position this year from 30th place last year
  8. IIFT New Delhi has moved up to 25th position this year from 26th last year
  9. GIM Goa has moved up at 35th position from 48 last year
  10. IIM Sambalpur has gained more than 15 places and is Ranked #61 this year from the rank band of 76-100 last year
Top Losers in NIRF Ranking 2021
  1. IIM Lucknow which was at 4th position last year slides down to 7th Place
  2. IIT Kharagpur goes down to 9th place this year from 5th last year
  3. IIM Tiruchirappalli has lost its 15th place and has gone down to 17th position
  4. IIM Ranchi has lost its 20th place and has gone down to 22nd position
  5. IIM Rohtak has gone down at 28th position from 21st position last year
  6. IIT Roorkee has lost two places and slides to # 14 this year from #12 last year

NIRF MBA Ranking 2021 has released the complete list of top management institutes on September 9, 2021. Below are the top 20 management institutes, university management departments in NIRF Ranking 2021 for MBA. The trends reflect that many top B-schools which occupied top positions during last several NIRF Management Ranking have lost their places while many of them have jumped upwards at top positions.

Conducted and prepared by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Ranking releases a list of top Universities and institutes in different category. The categories in which institutes are ranked, include Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture, Dental, Management, Law and Research. Earlier the NIRF Ranking Release process was postponed due to the Corona Virus pandemic. The rankings were used to be released in the month of April prior to 2020.  

 

18 IIMs in NIRF Management Ranking 2021
Out of the 20 IIMs, NIRF Ranking 2021 has ranked 16 IIMs among top 75 B-schools. Two baby IIMs which started operation in 2015-16 namely IIM Jammu and IIM Sirmaur are also ranked in the rank band 76-100.

  1. Amity University: The placement percentage at Amity is 70.83% with median salary of Rs. 5.30 LPA but it is placed higher than IIM Kashipur and Xavier University. The placement at IIM Kashipur is 97.57% with a median salary of Rs. 12.54 LPA and the placement percentage at XUB is 99.45% with median salary of Rs.15 LPA.
  2. Lovely Professional University: The university has a placement percentage of 59.64% with median salary of Rs.5.20 LPA but is ranked above IIM Nagpur which has 100% placement with median salary of Rs.12.80 LPA.
  3. Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology & Chandigarh University: While Thapar has 77.51%  placement at a median salary of Rs.5.79 LPA and Chandigarh University has 69.37% placement with median salary of Rs.5.60 LPA, both are ranked higher than IIM Sambalpur and IRMA Anand which have 100% and 96.58% placement with median salary of Rs.10.50 LPA and Rs.10.45 LPA respectively.

NIRF Ranking 2021 Updates
Below are shared the NIRF Ranking 2021 Updates

  • NIRF Management Ranking 2021 is the 6th edition of MHRD NIRF Rankings. The first NIRF MBA Ranking was released on April 4, 2016 and since then the MHRD NIRF Ranking was released in the month of April till 2019. In 2020 NIRF Rankings were released in June and now the NIRF Rankings 2021 Management have been released in September 2021.
  • The NIRF Rankings 2021 Management have been announced after assessing the Indian higher educational institutes on various parameters like teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.
  • About 4000 institutes have applied and participated for the rankings this year and about 3800 institutes in different categories had applied last year. 
  • NIRF rankings were earlier announced by the President of India but due to Covid-19 pandemic the rankings are now released by the HRD Minister. Last year NIRF Rankings were e-released on June 11, 2020 at 12 Noon by Hon’ble Minister of HRD Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’

Backed by Government, and frequently cited by IIMs, IITs, other top universities in their publicity material, NIRF has become the best regarded and most credible ranking in India.
