Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will announce the shortlists for final selection GD-PI-WAT round for admission 2020 from the second week of January, 2020 after the CAT 2019 result is declared. Last year IIM Calcutta was the first to announce the shortlist for final selection round with 1990 candidates even before IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore, immediately after declaration of CAT exam result on January 5, 2019.

 

IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore shortlists are also expected to be announced on the same day or following day of CAT 2019 exam result declaration in the first week of January 2020.

 

Out of 20 IIMs, while IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta follow the policy of announcing the shortlist in one or two days from the date of CAT result declaration,  many other IIMs announce their shortlists in one or two weeks after the CAT result declaration.

IIM Shortlist Criteria: Key Parameters
IIM shortlist criteria focus more on student quality which is not just measured only by CAT exam scores. As such ‘profile’ plays an important role and therefore is considered for improving diversity in IIM Class rooms. Accordingly IIM Shortlist criteria focus mainly on following 3 Parameters:

  • CAT 2019 Exam Scores: Each IIM shortlist criteria specify its minimum required sectional as well as overall percentile score in the range of 70 to 95 percentile
  • Academic Profile & Diversity: IIMs shortlist criteria award weightage to excellent academic record till graduation and to the candidates coming from Non-Engineering back ground. Female candidates are also awarded weightage to promote gender diversity in IIM class rooms
  • Work Experience: If a candidate has a work experience between 2 and 3 years in a supervisory cadre, good weightage in the range of 5 to 10 percent is awarded in IIM shortlisting criteria to become eligible for GD-PI-WAT round

IIMs shortlisting criteria and the process with weightage components adopted by the IIMs can give ample idea how the IIMs announce shortlist for interview round. The criteria being adopted by IIMs to announce the shortlist for final selection round 2020 is changed as they now focus more on academic diversity, gender diversity and diverse profile of the applicants along with the quality of work experience.

IIM Indore Shortlist Criteria 2020
IIM Indore will shortlist the candidates for WAT & PI stage on the basis of composite scores which will be arrived at by accounting for the academic profile alsoThe Composite Score therefore is calculated on the basis of CAT 2019 score, academic scores, and gender diversity. There is no weightage to the academic scores beyond class 12. Candidates scoring percentage of marks above 85 can get a good weightage in the computation of composite scores:

* Composite Score = Sum of the above scores (Max 100) is the formula to arrive at the maximum score to check whether you would be shortlisted by IIM Indore after CAT 2019 result is announced in the 2nd week of January 2020.  Please note that  Zcandidate, Zmin, Zmax for 10th and 12th Standard are computed using the normalisation process.

 

IIM Kozhikode Shortlist Criteria 2020
IIM Kozhikode will shortlist the candidates for WAT & PI stage on the basis of  five parametres for admission 2020 as against three parameters last year. These are CAT 2019 score, academic scores of class X and XII and Academic & Gender diversity. There is no weightage to the academic scores after class 12.

 

A shortlist of candidates in each category will be created based on an Aggregate Index Score (AIS). The AIS is computed based on the performance in CAT 2019, Class X and XII marks and diversity. The weight of each component in the AIS is as follows:

Top IIMs Shortlist: Many 99 Percentilers may not be in IIMs Shortlists  
What is noteworthy is that even hundreds of CAT 2019 Toppers and 99 Percentilers may not find place in the IIM shortlisting  & Admissions 2020 in the top IIMs. On the other hand, candidates with percentile below 90 may find place in IIM shortlisting due to their profile, academic diversity despite scoring low in CAT exam 2019.
