IIM Bangalore has revamped its admission criteria with significant changes in its selection process for MBA 2024-26 batch. IIMB will award higher 55% weight to CAT 2023 score, 30% Weight to Class 10 & 12 Score and No weight to performance in Bachelor’s degree. No weight is announced for Academic Diversity. With many changes introduced in its admission process 2024, IIM Bangalore MBA Admission 2024 process has opened with the beginning of CAT 2023 exam registration process on August 2, 2023. The last date to apply for IIM Bangalore MBA admission 2024 is September 13, 2023. No separate application for IIM Bangalore MBA Admission needs to be submitted nor any application fee is to be paid. You should opt for IIM Bangalore MBA program and choose interview centres in the CAT 2023 application form which includes IIMB application for admission with application fees.

IIM Bangalore has significantly revamped its shortlisting and final selection criteria. While higher weightage to CAT 2023 score will be awarded, no weightage will be given for graduation marks and for academic diversity in shortlisting for PI round. Earlier, IIM Bangalore had kept its CAT cut offs on lower side and had preferred to award higher weightage to performance in PI-WAT round. However, now the components for IIMB admission criteria and weightages are substantially changed

Based on last year admission policy, following are the 6 key changes in IIMB Admission criteria 2024

  1. CAT Score Weightage Up: CAT 2023 Score Weightage increased to 55% from 40% earlier
  2. Class 10 Weightage Down: Weightage for Class 10 Marks reduced to 15% from 20% earlier
  3. Class 12 Weightage Up: Weightage for Class 12 Marks increased to 15% from 10% earlier year
  4. No Weightage for Bachelor’s Degree: No Weightage will be given for Bachelor’s degree marks, earlier it had 20% weight
  5. Gender Diversity Weight Up: Weightage for Gender Diversity Increased to 5% from 2% earlier

6. IIM Bangalore Eligibility Criteria 2024

  • 6.1 IIM Bangalore eligibility criteria require that the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category, the eligibility criterion is relaxed to 45%
  • 6.2 The candidate should appear in CAT 2023 exam and must score minimum prescribed sectional and overall score to become eligible for admission at IIM Bangalore
  • 6.3 If the candidate is awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence to determine PGP admission eligibility would be based on the equivalence certified by the institution/university from where the bachelor's degree is obtained. In case the institution/university does not have any scheme for converting the CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by IIM Bangalore by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant by 100 to confirm the Admission eligibility of the candidate. 
  • 6.4 A candidate appearing for the final year bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results is also eligible to apply for IIMB Admission 2024. Such a candidate must produce a certificate from the principal/head of the department/ registrar/director of the institution/university certifying that the candidate is currently in the final year or is awaiting final results and has obtained at least 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category) based on latest available grades/marks.
  • 6.5 IIM Bangalore Eligibility criterion further clarifies that such a candidate, if selected, will become ineligible for the admission unless he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2024 from the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university (issued on or before June 30, 2024) stating that they have completed all the requirements (the result may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate.
  • 6.6 It is mandatory for a final year student, who is provisionally considered eligible by IIM Bangalore and offered admission, to submit the mark-sheet and degree certificate of the final year bachelor's degree examination held on or before June 30, 2024.  The deadline to submit the mark-sheet and the certificate is December 31, 2024.

9. Admission Criteria 2024: Exam Accepted, Final selection Process
The Admission Criteria 2024 of IIMB brings a liberalised CAT 2023 percentile cut off and relaxed admission eligibility criteria and greater focus on profile. IIM Bangalore has increased the weightage to CAT score in arriving at the shortlist for PI-WAT round while the score for performance in PI-WAT commands highest weightage in preparing the final merit list for admission. 

It is mandatory for the candidates who wish to pursue MBA from IIM Bangalore that he/she must have registered and applied for CAT 2023 and must appear in the CAT 2023 exam on November 26, 2023. A balanced score in all the three sections of CAT 2023 and good academic profile is the key to get admission in IIM Bangalore.

9.1 Two Stages of IIM Bangalore Admission 2024
The selection of the candidates for admission 2024 at IIM Bangalore is a two-step process involving Shortlisting criteria for PI-WAT and the Final admission selection Criteria comprising PI-WAT round.

In the first step, IIM Bangalore will shortlist the candidates for WAT and Personal Interview (PI) from among the candidates who have a valid CAT-2023 score, who have applied to the programme and who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme. The second step is the final selection criteria on the basis of which admission offer will be made.

Over the years, IIM Bangalore has found that the students who perform well academically in the PGP programme are those who have a consistently good academic record at their secondary school, higher secondary school and graduation level, besides exhibiting sufficiently high aptitude as measured by the CAT Exam. Accordingly, IIM Bangalore uses multiple parameters and award high weightage to academic performance in Class 10 and 12, as well as the section wise scores in CAT exam to judge the suitability of candidates for the PGP programme. 

Stage-1: IIM Bangalore Shortlisting Criteria for Admission 2024
The Admission criteria and weights given to various parameters in shortlisting are based on data from previous cycles as well as on inputs from the IIM Bangalore faculty body and other relevant stakeholders. The Admission criteria at IIM Bangalore are revised every year. The admission committee fixes these criteria and weights before beginning of each admission cycle to avoid any bias

The first part of IIM Bangalore Admission criteria is the shortlisting criteria before final selection round. IIM Bangalore will shortlist the candidates on the basis of CAT 2023 score, past academic performance, and other criteria as under:

  • The 1st stage of shortlisting in IIM Bangalore Admission Criteria awards 30% weight to Academics, 55% weight to CAT 2023 score, 10% weight to Work Experience and 5% to Gender Diversity
  • The candidate must have scored minimum sectional percentile of 80 in ‘Verbal and Reading Comprehension' (VARC) section and 75 percentile in ‘Quantitative Aptitude' (QA), ‘Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning' (DILR) in CAT 2023. The minimum overall percentile required for PGP 2024 shortlsting through CAT 2023 at IIM Bangalore is 85.
  • If the candidate does not score minimum prescribed percentile in CAT 2023, he/she will not be considered for shortlisting for final selection stage.
  • The candidate with excellent academics will be awarded higher points in shortlisting criteria
  • 90% & Above marks in Class 10 will be awarded top rating of 15 points out of 100.
  • For Class 12, 90% and above marks will be awarded 15 points out of 100.
  • No Weight will be awarded for Bachelor’s degree marks.
  • Gender Diversity will be awarded 5 points
  • Weightage to Work Experience or for Professional Graduation Degree is 10%
  • Candidates with Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accounting, and Company Secretary certifications are eligible for weightage under the category of professional course. No other professional course is eligible for weightage under the said category.
  • Top 10 candidates in each of the following parameters: total score in CAT, adjusted Bachelors’score (commerce, arts, and science disciplines), and Professional (CA/ ICWA/ CS), will automatically qualify for final selection round. These candidates are given a chance to appear for PI round due to their exceptional performance in these categories.

Stage-2: IIM Bangalore Final Admission Selection Round Criteria

  • All the shortlisted candidates are eligible to participate in Final selection round for admission to IIM Bangalore
  • IIM Bangalore selection criteria after final admission round award 35% weight to Personal Interview (PI); 10% weight to Written Ability Test (WAT); 25% weight to CAT 2023 Score; 10% weight to Class 10 Marks; 10% weight to Class 12 marks; 10% weight to work experience.
  • The maximum weightage of 10 points for work experience will be awarded by IIM Bangalore in final selection round on the basis of length of work experience and quality of work experience as on July 31, 2023. The candidate with managerial work experience of 36 months & above after graduation will be awarded the 10 points. No weightage will be awarded for the work experience below 6 months. Besides, Training/Project work/work done as an integral part of curricular requirement will not be considered.
  • WAT at IIM Bangalore will be of 30 minutes duration. The performance of each candidate on the Written Ability Test (WAT) will be scored in terms of content and style
  • All candidates will be required to provide two confidential reference letters from their employers or from teachers in the academic institutions where they had been students previously before the PI round at IIM Bangalore.

10. IIM Bangalore Cut Off for Admission 2023  

  • IIM Bangalore Cutoff 2024 has been liberalised for admission 2024.
  • Only the candidates above the minimum cut-offs in the CAT 2023 sectional percentile ranks, the overall percentile rank and obtaining a positive (greater than zero) raw score in all sections of CAT-2023 will be considered for all the subsequent stages.
  • These are cut-offs used for preparing the first short-list
  • The actual CAT 2023 cut-offs for those who are called for interview could be much higher
  • Below are the minimum CAT 2023 cutoffs required for shortlisting.
  • No candidate in the respective category will be considered for the 1st  phase shortlisting and will be out of admission process at IIM Bangalore, in case the following CAT cut offs are not met.

11. IIM Bangalore Selection Process 2024
The process of admission to IIM Bangalore is based on the relationship between academic performance of students of the PGP in IIMB and their past academic performance, their CAT score, performance in the admission interview and prior work experience. Following steps are included in the IIM Bangalore Admission process:

  • Step 1: The candidate must have appeared and scored the minimum required sectional and overall percentile in CAT 2023 to be considered for first stage screening process for admission at IIM Bangalore
  • Step 2: Candidates are short-listed for Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT) from among the candidates who have a valid CAT-2023 score, who have excellent academics, who have applied to the programme and who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme of IIM Bangalore
  • Step 3: IIM Bangalore will identify many candidates for shortlisting for the PI round with an excellent academic record and work experience but who may have narrowly missed the high score that would have been required if CAT alone was the basis for the PI shortlist. Such candidates will be preferred in the shortlisting process as against those who have only a high CAT score but have poor academic profile and poor quality of work experience.  The emphasis in shortlisting process at IIM Bangalore is on consistent and high performance in academics and other parameters.
  • Step 4: After the WAT & PI round, admission offers are made by IIM Bangalore to successful candidates. The final selection is based on a diverse set of attributes which includes performance in WAT & PI, Performance in past academics, Performance in CAT 2023, Quality of Work Experience among others
  • Step 5: Final Admission Offer will be made by IIM Bangalore to the candidates in the third week of April 2024 on the basis of Final Score arrived after awarding the weightage scores on all the components.

Like the admission process for 2024-26 batch, IIM Bangalore is likely to keep similar admission process for 2025 process is likely to remain the same. The young students who are not eligible this year, can apply for IIM Bangalore admission 2025 next year, to pursue MBA.
