IIM Bangalore Admission 2019: Liberalised Criteria
IIM Bangalore Admission Criteria 2019-21 brought out a liberalised CAT 2018 percentile cut off and low weightage, relaxed admission eligibility criteria and greater focus on profile. IIM Bangalore increased the weightage to academic profile in arriving at the shortlist for PI-WAT round while the score in PI-WAT commanded highest weightage in preparation of the final merit list for admission.

IIM Bangalore Admission Eligibility

  1. IIM Bangalore eligibility criteria require that the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category, the eligibility criterion is relaxed to 45%
  2. The candidate should have taken CAT 2018 exam and must have scored minimum prescribed sectional and overall score to become eligible for admission at IIM Bangalore
  3. If the candidate is awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence to determine PGP admission eligibility was based on the equivalence certified by the institution/university from where the bachelor's degree is obtained. In case the institution/university does not have any scheme for converting the CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence was established by IIM Bangalore by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant by 100 to confirm the Admission eligibility of the candidate.
  4. A candidate appearing for the final year bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination was also allowed to to apply for IIM Bangalore Admission 2019-21. Such a candidate, if has been admitted by IIMB, will become ineligible for admission unless he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2019 from the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university (issued on or before June 30, 2019) stating that they have completed all the requirements (the result may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate.
  5. It is mandatory for a final year student, who is provisionally considered eligible by IIM Bangalore and offered admission, to submit the mark-sheet and degree certificate of the final year bachelor's degree examination held on or before June 30, 2019.  The deadline to submit the mark-sheet and the certificate is December 31, 2019.

IIM Bangalore Admission Process
IIM Bangalore Admission process was based on the relationship between academic performance of students of the PGP in IIMB and their past academic performance, their CAT score, performance in the admission interview and prior work experience.

Following steps were included in the IIM Bangalore Admission process:

Step 1: The candidate must have appeared and scored the minimum required sectional and overall percentile in CAT 2018 to be considered for first stage screening process for admission at IIM Bangalore

Step 2: Candidates were short-listed for Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT) from among the candidates who had a valid CAT-2018 score, who had excellent academics, who had applied to the programme and who satisfied the eligibility criteria for the programme of IIM Bangalore

Step 3: IIM Bangalore identified many candidates for shortlisting for the PI round with an excellent academic record and work experience but who might have narrowly missed the high score that would have been required if CAT alone was the basis for the PI shortlist. Such candidates were preferred in the shortlisting process as against those who had only a high CAT score but had poor academic profile and poor quality of work experience.  The emphasis in shortlisting process at IIM Bangalore was on consistent and high performance in academics and other parameters.

Step 4: After the WAT & PI round, admission offers were made by IIM Bangalore to successful candidates. The final selection was based on a diverse set of attributes which included performance in WAT & PI, Performance in past academics, Performance in CAT 2018, Quality of Work Experience among others
