IIM Bangalore has released the Final admission Result 2020 for MBA & MBA (BA) 2020-22 batch. Admission offers are sent to selected candidates. The session commences on August 1, 2020. Check your admission status on IIM-B admission site and if you receive the admission offer, you need to pay the Offer Acceptance Amount. IIM Bangalore completed its WAT & PI round in the first week of March in all the cities without any impact of Corona Virus Lockdown
IIM Bangalore Admission 2020

IIM Bangalore has released final admission result 2020 for MBA and MBA (Business Analytics) 2020-22 batch. Admission offers are sent to selected candidates and if you have receive the admission offer, you need to pay the Offer Acceptance Amount by the date as mentioned in your offer letter. The academic session 2020-21 for the 1st year MBA and MBA (Business Analytics) will commence on August 1, 2020.

Please note that only those candidates who have been selected or waitlisted can find their name in the admission status details on the IIM Bangalore admission website. You can check your admission status by entering your CAT 2019 application number and Email ID as registered for CAT 2019 exam.

IIM Bangalore Shortlist

IIM Bangalore delayed its final admission result 2020 for the MBA 2020-22 batch considering the nationwide lockdown due to corona virus. Now, that the institute has released the final merit list for admission 2020, the candidates who have been selected by IIM Bangalore can proceed to finalise their admission by paying the offer acceptance fee before the last date.

Announcing the final result for MBA 2020-22 admissions, IIM Bangalore has clarified, “Candidates, who have been made an offer of admission, will be intimated directly by email.”

Academic Session Commencement
As regards to academic session 2020-21 commencement, IIM Bangalore has informed that the session for MBA and MBA (BA) 2020-22 batch will commence on August 1, 2020. In addition, IIM Bangalore has informed that the institute is “moving some classes and interviews to online mode, and using technology to stay connected and productive.”  

IIM Bangalore Admission Cut Off  

  • IIM Bangalore Cutoff 2020 has been liberalised for admission 2020.
  • Only the candidates above the minimum cut-offs in the CAT 2019 sectional percentile ranks, the overall percentile rank and obtaining a positive (greater than zero) raw score in all sections of CAT-2019 were considered for all the subsequent stages.
  • These are cut-offs used for preparing the first short-list
  • The actual CAT 2019 cut-offs for those who were called for interview are much higher
  • No candidate in the respective category was considered for the 1st  phase shortlisting without scoring following minimum CAT cut offs

IIM Bangalore Shortlist 2020: Key Changes
IIM Bangalore had released the shortlist for PI-WAT round on January 10, 2020 in evening hours. The final selection round for PGP admission 2020 of IIM Bangalore began in the month of February and continued till the first week of March 2020.

  • Reduced CAT 2019 score cut off to 85 Percentile in Shortlisting 2020 from 90 last year
  • Cut off Reduced by 5 percentile for each category
  • 8% Weightage for work experience at shortlisting stage 2020
  • Sectional CAT 2019 percentile required is reduced to 80 and 75 now
  • 40% Weightage to CAT Score 2019 in Shortlisting for PI-WAT
  • Only 25% weightage for CAT 2019 score in final admission selection 2020

In the first step, IIM Bangalore shortlisted the candidates for WAT and Personal Interview (PI) from among the candidates who had a valid CAT-2019 score, who had applied to the programme and who satisfied the eligibility criteria for the programme. The second step was the final selection criteria on the basis of which admission offer is made.

PI-WAT Round conducted by IIM Bangalore
IIM Bangalore conducted PI-WAT 2020 at Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi. All the shortlisted candidates had to participate in PI-WAT process on the designated date in the assigned city which they opted while filling in their CAT 2019 application form. The PI-WAT round was conducted either in the first or second half on the same day.

For some of the candidates whose PI-WAT could not be conducted earlier, were intimated with revised schedule for online conduct of the admission process. 

In regard to sending the interview call to the shortlisted candidates, IIM Bangalore had clarified, “An email (with schedule) will be sent to only those candidates who have been shortlisted for PI/WAT and successfully submit the application.”

IIM Bangalore shortlisting criteria was substantially changed for admission 2020. IIM Bangalore reduced the CAT 2019 cut off score by 5 percentile in the first stage shortlisting for each category of the candidates in the admission process of its flagship MBA 2020-22 batch. 

Two Step Admission Process
The selection of the candidates for admission to IIM Bangalore is a two-step process involving Shortlisting criteria for PI-WAT with 40% weight for CAT 2019 score and 50% Weight to Academics while the Final admission selection Criteria award only 25% weightage to CAT 2019 score

IIM Bangalore Placements
IIM Bangalore has consistently recorded high placements during last many years and during the economic slowdown as well. Lateral and Final Placements for the PGP class of 2018-20 of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) saw 428 students receiving 518 placement offers. Consulting emerged as the top recruiting segment with Accenture making 26 offers and Boston Consulting making 23 offers. The placement data for salary packages will be released by IIMB later.

IIM Bangalore Admission Criteria 2020 bring a liberalised CAT 2019 percentile cut off and low weightage, relaxed admission eligibility criteria and greater focus on profile. IIM Bangalore has increased the weightage to academic profile in arriving at the shortlist for PI-WAT round while the score in PI-WAT commands highest weightage and in preparing the final merit list for admission. 

It was mandatory for the candidates who wished to pursue MBA from IIM Bangalore that they had to register and apply for CAT 2019 before September 25, 2019 and should have appeared in the CAT 2019 exam on November 24, 2019. A balanced score in all the three sections of CAT 2019 and good academic profile is the key to get admission in IIM Bangalore.

The Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) of IIM Bangalore is a master’s level programme and the PGP batch of 2020-22 will be awarded degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) instead of earlier Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM).

The two-year, full-time, residential programme PGP 2020-22 at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore is designed to equip students to take on leadership roles in an increasingly complex and dynamic global scenario. The programme lasts six trimesters, spread over two years, with a summer project intermediary. In Global Rankings too, the PGP at IIM Bangalore is one of the most highly placed programmes. IIM Bangalore Admission Eligibility

  1. IIM Bangalore eligibility criteria required that the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category, the eligibility criterion is relaxed to 45%
  2. The candidate should appear in CAT 2019 exam and must score minimum prescribed sectional and overall score to become eligible for admission at IIM Bangalore
  3. A candidate appearing for the final year bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results is also eligible to apply for IIM Bangalore Admission 2020. Such a candidate must produce a certificate from the principal/head of the department/ registrar/director of the institution/university certifying that the candidate is currently in the final year or is awaiting final results and has obtained at least 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category) based on latest available grades/marks.
  4. IIM Bangalore Eligibility criterion further clarifies that such a candidate, if selected, will become ineligible for the IIM Bangalore admission unless he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2020 from the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university (issued on or before June 30, 2020) stating that they have completed all the requirements (the result may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate.
  5. It is mandatory for a final year student, who is provisionally considered eligible by IIM Bangalore and offered admission, to submit the mark-sheet and degree certificate of the final year bachelor's degree examination held on or before June 30, 2020.  The deadline to submit the mark-sheet and the certificate is December 31, 2020.

1. IIM Bangalore Shortlisting Criteria
The Admission criteria and weights given to various parameters in shortlisting are based on data from previous cycles as well as on inputs from the IIM Bangalore faculty body and other relevant stakeholders. The Admission criteria at IIM Bangalore are usually revised every year. The admission committee fixes these criteria and weights before beginning of each admission cycle to avoid any bias

The first part of IIM Bangalore Admission criteria is the shortlisting criteria before final selection round. IIM Bangalore will shortlist the candidates on the basis of CAT 2019 score, past academic performance, and other criteria as under:

  • The 1st stage of shortlisting in IIM Calcutta Admission Criteria awards 50% weight to Academics, 40% weight to CAT 2019 score, 8% weight to Work Experience and 2% to Gender Diversity
  • The candidate must have scored minimum sectional percentile of 80 in ‘Verbal and Reading Comprehension' (VARC) section and 75 percentile in ‘Quantitative Aptitude' (QA), ‘Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning' (DILR) in CAT 2019. The minimum overall percentile required for PGP 2020 shortlsting through CAT 2019 at IIM Bangalore is 85.
  • If the candidate does not score minimum prescribed percentile in CAT 2019, he/she will not be considered for shortlisting for final selection stage.
  • The candidate with excellent academics will be awarded higher points in shortlisting criteria
  • 90% & Above marks in Class 10 will be awarded top rating of 20 points out of 100.
  • For Class 12, 90% and above marks will be awarded 10 points out of 100.
  • 20% Weight will be awarded for Bachelor’s degree marks.
  • Gender Diversity will be awarded 2 points
  • Weightage to Work Experience or for Professional Graduation Degree is 8%
  • Candidates with Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accounting, and Company Secretary certifications are eligible for weightage under the category of professional course. No other professional course is eligible for weightage under the said category.
  • Top 10 candidates in each of the following parameters: total score in CAT, adjusted Bachelors’score (commerce, arts, and science disciplines), and Professional (CA/ ICWA/ CS), will automatically qualify for final selection round. These candidates are given a chance to appear for PI round due to their exceptional performance in these categories.

2. IIM Bangalore Final Admission Selection Round Criteria

  • All the shortlisted candidates were eligible to participate in Final selection round for admission to IIM Bangalore
  • IIM Bangalore selection criteria after final admission round award 30% weight to Personal Interview(PI); 10% weight to Written Abulity Test (WAT); 25% weight to CAT 2019 Score; 10% weight to Class 10 Marks; 5% weight to Class 12 marks; 10% weight to Bachelor’s degree marks and 10% weight to work experience.
  • The maximum weightage of 10 points for work experience will be awarded by IIM Bangalore in final selection round on the basis of length of work experience and quality of work experience as on July 31, 2019. The candidate with managerial work experience of 36 months & above after graduation will be awarded the 10 points. No weightage will be awarded for the work experience below 6 months. Besides, Training/Project work/work done as an integral part of curricular requirement will not be considered.
  • WAT at IIM Bangalore is of 30 minutes duration. The performance of each candidate on the Written Ability Test (WAT) will be scored in terms of content and style
  • All candidates will be required to provide two confidential reference letters from their employers or from teachers in the academic insitutions where they had been students previously before the PI round at IIM Bangalore.

IIM Bangalore Admission Process
IIM Bangalore Admission process is based on the relationship between academic performance of students of the PGP in IIMB and their past academic performance, their CAT score, performance in the admission interview and prior work experience.

Following steps are included in the IIM Bangalore Admission process:

  • Step 1: The candidate must have appeared and scored the minimum required sectional and overall percentile in CAT 2019 to be considered for first stage screening process for admission at IIM Bangalore
  • Step 2: Candidates are short-listed for Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT) from among the candidates who have a valid CAT-2019 score, who have excellent academics, who have applied to the programme and who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme of IIM Bangalore
  • Step 3: IIM Bangalore will identify many candidates for shortlisting for the PI round with an excellent academic record and work experience but who may have narrowly missed the high score that would have been required if CAT alone was the basis for the PI shortlist. Such candidates will be preferred in the shortlisting process as against those who have only a high CAT score but have poor academic profile and poor quality of work experience.  The emphasis in shortlisting process at IIM Bangalore is on consistent and high performance in academics and other parameters.
  • Step 4: After the WAT & PI round, admission offers are made by IIM Bangalore to successful candidates. The final selection is based on a diverse set of attributes which includes performance in WAT & PI, Performance in past academics, Performance in CAT 2019, Quality of Work Experience among others
  • Step 5: Final Admission Offer will be made by IIM Bangalore to the candidates in the third week of April 2020 on the basis of Final Score arrived after awarding the weightage scores on all the components.
