IIM Kozhikode Admits Diverse PGP 2020-22 Batch with more than 50% Women Out of 492 Students; Session to Commence Online in August 2nd Week

IIM Kozhikode PGP 2020-22 is the most diverse batch with 52% women students out of 492 students. 40% of the batch is from various Non-engineering disciplines and 65% of the students have work experience in various industry categories. The academic session 2020-21 is set to begin with online classes for new batch from August 2nd week while for the senior batch, session commences in July 1st week

With a most diverse batch comprising 52% women students, Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode has successfully concluded its admissions process for its 24th batch of flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in management 2020-22. In recent years, after 2017, this is the most diverse batche of IIM Kozhikode. The institute has also launched MBA in Liberal Studies & Management (MBA-LSM) with 62.5% women in the first batch. The cademic session for the fresh PGP, PGP-Finance and MBA-LSM is set to commence in the 2nd week of August 2020 in online mode.

Key Highlights of New Batch 2020-22
Despite the uncertainties and disruptions caused by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, IIM Kozhikode has kept its legacy of creating firsts in its newly inducted batch 2020-22:

  • PGP 2020-22 batch with 492 students has high gender diversity and consists of 236  men and 256 women students
  • Batch has high academic diversity with 40% of the batch coming from various Non-engineering disciplines, such as, Architecture, Arts & Sciences, Commerce, Management, Medicine among other disciplines
  • 65% of the students in the batch have work experience in various industry categories, such as, Automobile, Banking, Durable Goods, Engineering, FMCG, Information Technology, Pharmaceutical 
  • The newly launched MBA in Liberal Studies & Management (MBA-LSM) admits 62.5% women in inaugural batch
  • Academic session 2020-21 is set to commence with online classes for senior batch from July 1st week and for fresh inductees from August, 2nd week.
  • 10% students are with professional degrees and certifications, such as, CA, CS and CFA

In 2017 IIM Kozhikode inducted a record 54.29% women students and broke the glass ceiling of 2013. Now With 40% of the PGP-24 batch coming from various Non-engineering disciplines, the current PGP batch will be also the most academically diverse.

65% of the Batch with Work Experience
Over 65% of the students in the new batch have some degree of work experience in various industry categories, such as, Automobile, Banking, Durable Goods, Engineering, FMCG, Information Technology, Pharmaceutical among others.

MBA –LSM: New Programme Launched with 40 Students in 1st Batch
IIM Kozhikode has also announced the admission of students to two of its new programmes - MBA in Liberal Studies & Management with strength of 40 students. The MBA-LSM programme inaugural batch with 62.5% women students, has a balanced 52-48 % composition with respect to candidates from engineering and non-engineering background.

PGP-Finance: 42 Students Admitted
42 students have taken admission in IIM Kozhikode PGP Finance 2020-22 batch. 73% students with a background in engineering have taken admission in the inaugural batch of PGP-Finance.

Academic Session to Commence in Online Mode
IIM Kozhikode is all set to commence the academic session 2020-21 in July 1st week for senior batch and in August 2nd week for new batch. Prof. Shubashis Dey, Admissions Chairperson IIM Kozhikode has shared that keeping in mind the safety and security of students as coronavirus infections continue to rise across the country the Institute has also taken an unprecedented decision to begin the new Academic Year 2020-21 classes online.

The current 2019-21 batch of IIMK’s flagship program (PGP) is set to complete its third term classes and exams online, from July 1 onwards. The batch shall also commence its Term IV classes online by August 10. As for the incoming 2020-22 batches, the students will attend first term classes at IIM Kozhikode virtually from August 12. The Institute will also be conducting a virtual orientation session for the new inductees of its flagship programme before the commencement of the classes. As the situation improves, there are plans being chalked out for bringing in students in a phased manner maintaining all social distancing and quarantine norms, as specified in the government advisories.

He said, “Uncertainties and complexities of managing in the current business world requires a working manager to be able to approach a problem from multiple perspectives and by nurturing diversity of thought in its classrooms by consciously choosing to create a diverse learning environment, IIMK aims to equip its students with the knowledge and experience that will be essential in sustaining them throughout their professional career.”

IIM Kozhikode released final admission result 2020 for PGP 2020-22 batch on May 14, 2020 after completing the final selection process. The result consisted of finally selected as well as waitlisted candidates for the PGP 2020-22 programme. After checking the admission status, candidates needed to abide by the stipulated dates given by IIM Kozhikode to pay the admission fee online, otherwise their candidature might be cancelled and the next waitlisted candidate could  be offered admission.  The result has been delayed in view of  nationwide lockdown due to corona virus. The institute has successfully completed the admission process amidst the Covid-19 challenges. IIM Kozhikode decided to release the final merit list for admission 2020 after May 8. The admission process was concluded in the month of March but the final result for admission could not be declared  and was held back due to Covid-19 restrictions.

CAT 2019 result was declared on January 4, 2020. Since then, the CAT 2019 toppers, who participated in the final admission process of IIM Kozhikode were worried about their future as they had no source to know their final admission status. With the final admission result of IIM Kozhikode released now, those who wish to get admission in the top B-school have taken a sigh of relief.  

IIM Kozhikode had announced the shortlist of candidates on January 7, 2020 immediately after declaration of CAT 2019 result in January 2020 for for MBA admission 2020. The B-school reduced weightage for CAT 2019 score to 45% in its shortlisting criteria and reduced it further to 35% for the final selection round for admission 2020.

Substantial changes were made in the shortlisting process by IIM Kozhikode which not only reduced the weightage to CAT exam score but also has brought back the diversity factor, falling in line with top IIMs. IIM Kozhikode reduced the CAT 2019 weightage to 45% as against the earlier awarded high weightage of 75%, slashing substantially it’s one of the biggest shortlisting parameters.

IIM Kozhikode Cutoff 2020 clarify that the candidates above the minimum cut-offs in the CAT 2019 sectional percentile ranks, the overall percentile rank and obtaining a positive (greater than zero) raw score in all sections of CAT-2019 are considered for all the subsequent stages for shortlisting and admission.

Candidates should have secured following minimum score in class X and XII to be considered for shortlisting by IIM Kozhikode. The percentage of marks obtained in Class X and Class XII would be calculated based on the aggregate marks of all subjects that appear in the marks sheet or grade sheet, irrespective of whether the Board considers them for calculation of percentage.

IIM Kozhikode will offer admission to 480 students in 2020. A few students with equal rank in final merit list may be added. Last year there were 485 students in the new batch. Betting on the diverse pool of talent, IIM Kozhikode currently has 76 full time faculty members. 

IIM Kozhikode Admission Process

  • Step 1: The candidate must have appeared and scored the minimum required sectional and overall percentile in CAT 2019 and minimum academic score to be considered for first stage screening process for admission at IIM Kozhikode
  • Step 2:Candidates are short-listed for Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT) from among the candidates who have a valid CAT-2019 score, who have applied to the programme and who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme of IIM Kozhikode. The PI-WAT round will be conducted at Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Mumbai and New Delhi. 
  • Step 3: Shortlisted Candidates had to attend both WAT/GD & PI round in final selection process. IIM Kozhikode also expects a consistent and minimum performance in the different parameters of Personal Interview (PI) round. Candidates not meeting the minimum performance in any of PI parameters will not be considered for the final selection.
  • Step 4:After the WAT & PI round, admission offers are made by IIM Kozhikode to successful candidates. The final selection is based on performance in CAT, performance in WAT & PI, academics, among others. Category wise merit list is generated based on Final Score
  • Step 5: Final Admission Offer is made to the candidates in the second week of May 2020 after releasing the final admission result on May 8on the basis of Final Score which in turn is arrived after awarding the weightage scores on all the components.
