IIM Kozhikode Admission 2027: What Cut Off Do You Need, and Why Does a Single Essay Carry 20% of Your Final Score?

IIM Kozhikode admission 2027 asks for less on paper than several peers and more in the selection room. A General-category candidate needs 85 percentile overall, 75 in each section, and at least 60% in both Class X and Class XII — the school percentages are a genuine eligibility bar here, not a formality. What sets the process apart is the final score: the Written Ability Test carries 20%, the highest of any IIM in India, and a separately weighted resume score carries a further 10%. Together, 30% of your result rests on things unconnected to your CAT percentile. One more point catches candidates out every year — Stage 1 is a compulsory registration step, not an interview call, and missing it ends your application. This page sets out the cut off table, the Aggregate Index Score, the four-part final score, the ₹23,50,000 fee and the payment schedule, all from the institute's official 2026-28 admissions policy. IIM Kozhikode Eligibility Criteria

The IIM Kozhikode admission eligibility criteria set explicit school-level percentage minimums alongside CAT percentiles, which most IIMs do not.

Class X and Class XII percentages are calculated on the aggregate marks of all subjects appearing on the mark sheet or grade sheet, irrespective of whether the respective board considers them for its own percentage calculation. That is a meaningful detail: a candidate whose board excludes a weaker subject from its computation will find IIM Kozhikode admission including it.

Candidates holding CA, CMA (ICWA) or CS must have secured at least 50% aggregate marks in those examinations.
Candidates who received no marks in graduation, Class 12 or Class 10 because of the COVID-19 pandemic but hold a pass certificate are accepted into Stage 2, subject to a self-declaration at Stage 1 about the non-availability of marks. Independent vetting may be conducted with the university or college for graduation.

Stage 1 Is Registration, Not a Call

A distinction that catches candidates out every year.

All candidates who opted for the IIM Kozhikode PGP programme and meet the minimum eligibility criteria receive an email with instructions for online registration. Only those who complete the online registration process are considered for Stage 2.
The policy states this plainly: it is a pre-interview registration process and not a call for an interview. A candidate who clears the cut off but does not register has removed themselves from IIM Kozhikode admission entirely.

IIM Kozhikode Stage-2 Shortlisting: The Aggregate Index Score

IIM Kozhikode admission ranks registered candidates within each category on an Aggregate Index Score.

The CAT Index Score is built from the scaled scores of all three CAT 2025 sections with equal weightage, then carried at 50%.

Unlike IIM Bangalore, which weights DILR above QA, or IIM Indore, which weights QA highest, IIM Kozhikode admission treats the three sections identically.

Class XII carries more than Class X, at 20% against 15%. Together the two school components carry 35% of the shortlisting score — the heaviest school-record weighting among the older IIMs, and more than IIM Calcutta’s 25 of 85.

Where a candidate has no Class X marks because of COVID, the 15% is split proportionately between the CAT Index Score and the Class XII score. Where Class XII marks are unavailable, the 20% is split between the CAT Index and Class X.

Previous work or professional experience carries a weightage of up to 5%.

IIM Kozhikode Selection Process: WAT and PI

Shortlisted candidates must appear for a Written Ability Test followed by a Personal Interview.

IIM Kozhikode conducts the WAT and PI in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata and other centres, across forenoon and afternoon sessions. Candidates write an essay, with the topic announced at the venue just before the WAT session begins, and then attend the personal interview.

There is no Group Discussion round in IIM Kozhikode admission.

The Stage 2 shortlist is made available on the IIMK registration portal, and admission offers are made around the first week of May 2026 for the 2026-28 cycle.

IIM Kozhikode Final Composite Score

After the WAT and PI conclude, IIM Kozhikode admission scores are computed on four components and a common and category-wise merit list is prepared.

Three features of the IIM Kozhikode admission final score are worth drawing out.

The WAT at 20% is the highest of any IIM in India. IIM Lucknow and IIM Bangalore weight it at 10, IIM Calcutta at 8. A single 30-minute essay carries a fifth of IIM Kozhikode admission.

CAT and PI are weighted equally at 35% each. Most IIMs tilt one way or the other — IIM Calcutta towards the interview at 48 against 30, IIM Mumbai towards CAT at 60 against 20. IIM Kozhikode balances them exactly.

The resume score at 10% is calculated on professional qualifications and certifications. No other IIM in the collection carries a separately weighted resume component, and it rewards credentials such as CA, CFA or FRM that sit outside the academic record.
CAT falls from 50% at shortlisting to 35% in the final score — a smaller drop than at most peers

Originals of all relevant certificates must be produced for verification during the PI. A candidate failing to produce any relevant original certificate is disqualified from attending the PI process.

Payment schedule: Term I and IV ₹4,75,000 each; Terms II, III, V and VI ₹3,50,000 each.

In addition to the fee: a caution deposit of ₹25,000, refundable on completion of the course after adjustment of dues, and ₹2,000 towards the Students’ Welfare Fund, both applicable at the time of admission.

Mess and students’ activities deposit: ₹40,000 payable at the beginning of each academic term, refunded after each term based on actual consumption. That is an unusually fair mechanism — most IIMs adjust mess only at the end of the year or the programme.

International Immersion. For students enrolled in the PGP-Finance and PGP-LSM programmes, all expenses related to the International Immersion Programme — travel, accommodation and food — are borne by the students themselves and sit entirely outside the ₹23,50,000.

IIM Kozhikode Placements at a Glance

Final placements for 2025 saw 561 students participate, with 169 total recruiters, a mean CTC of ₹28.18 lakh, a median of ₹27.50 lakh and a highest of ₹81.00 lakh.

Full detail on percentile bands, domain split and year-on-year movement is on the IIM Kozhikode Placements article.

Why Choose IIM Kozhikode

The WAT carries more weight here than anywhere else. At 20% of the final score, a candidate who writes well has a lever at IIM Kozhikode that does not exist at IIM Calcutta, where the WAT is worth 8.

IIM Kozhikode admission carries a separately weighted resume score. Ten per cent for professional qualifications and certifications, which no other IIM in the collection awards as a distinct component.

IIM Kozhikode admission balances CAT and interview exactly. Thirty-five per cent each, which suits candidates who are strong on both rather than exceptional on one.

Equal sectional treatment of CAT. The CAT Index Score uses all three sections with equal weight, so no section is privileged — unlike IIM Bangalore, IIM Indore or IIM Sirmaur.

AMBA and EQUIS accreditation, printed on the institute’s own fee document.

Third on NIRF 2025, ahead of IIM Lucknow, IIM Mumbai, IIM Calcutta and IIM Indore on that framework.

Summary

IIM Kozhikode admission 2027 gives you more levers than a percentile-only process would. Shortlisting runs on an Aggregate Index Score weighting CAT at 50%, Class XII at 20% and Class X at 15%, so your board results count for more here than at most older IIMs. At the final stage, CAT and the Personal Interview are balanced exactly at 35% each, with the WAT at 20% and a resume score at 10% — practise your written argument and keep your professional certifications current. Complete the Stage 1 registration as soon as the email arrives; clearing the cut off is not enough on its own. The fee is ₹23,50,000, with International Immersion costs outside it for PGP-Finance and PGP-LSM students. Also read: IIM Lucknow Placements 2027, IIM Admission 2027, and CAT 2026 exam guide.
