SJMSOM – IIT Bombay has announced to release MBA admission 2021 result on May 1, with many changes like 40% weightage to CAT score, higher weightage to women candidates among others. MBA admission 2021 result, at high RoI B-school at IIT Bombay, Shailesh J.Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM), will be released on May 1, 2021 with many key changes like lower weightage for CAT exam score, higher weightage for gender diversity among others as detailed below.

Graduates in any discipline who had appeared and scored well in CAT 2020 could apply for MBA admission at SJMSOM IIT Bombay till January 31, 2021.

Notifying a different eligibility condition for the MBA aspirants, SJMSOM-IIT Bombay required minimum 4 years bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree in any discipline as against IIMs and other top MBA colleges who require only 3 years bachelor’s degree. 

The MBA admission eligibility criteria at SJMSOM-IIT Bombay is that the candidates from any discipline were eligible to apply while many other IITs require only engineering graduates to apply for MBA admission. 

The two-year MBA at SJMSOM-IIT Bombay is a full-time residential course for graduates from all disciplines wishing to choose a career in management. This Programme is one of the highly ranked   MBA programmes in India

Below are the 10 key changes announced by SJMSOM-IIT Bombay in its MBA admission criteria 2021:

SJMSOM-IIT Bombay Admission Criteria 2021 is a two step process involving the preliminary screening and shortlisting criteria with  70% weightage for CAT exam score and the Final admission selection Criteria with only 40% weightage to CAT exam score.

SJMSOM-IIT Bombay Admission Cut Off  
SJMSOM-IIT Bombay Cutoff  2021 has been liberalised for MBA admission 2021. Only the candidates above the minimum cut-offs in the CAT 2020 sectional percentile ranks, the overall percentile rank and obtaining a positive (greater than zero) raw score in all sections of CAT-2020 has been considered for all the subsequent stages.

The first part of SJMSOM-IIT Bombay Admission criteria was the shortlisting criteria before final selection round. SJMSOM-IIT Bombay shortlisted the candidates on the basis of CAT 2020 score, past academic performance, and other criteria as under:

If the candidate could not score minimum prescribed percentile in CAT 2020, he/she was considered for shortlisting for final selection stage. All the shortlisted candidates were invited to appear for Personal Interview (PI) between 3rd  and 7th March, 2021. Shortlisted candidates were required to book the slots for PI as soon as the shortlist was released.

SJMSOM-IIT Bombay Admission Process
Following steps are included in the SJMSOM-IIT Bombay Admission process:

  • Step 1: The candidate must have applied, appeared and scored the minimum required sectional and overall percentile in CAT 2020 to be considered for first stage screening process for admission at SJMSOM-IIT Bombay
  • Step 2: Candidate must have applied for MBA Admission 2021 at SJMSOM-IIT Bombay latest by January 31, 2021
  • Step 3: Candidates were short-listed for Personal Interview (PI) from among the candidates who have a valid CAT-2020 score, who have applied for admission to SJMSOM-IIT Bombayand who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme of SJMSOM-IIT Bombay 
  • Step 4: The PI was held from March 3 to 7, 2021 for domestic candidates. For International candidates the PI was held thereafter. After the PI round, admission offers are made by SJMSOM-IIT Bombay to successful candidates. The final selection is based on a diverse set of attributes which includes performance in CAT, performance in PI, academics, extra-curricular achievements, work experience among others
  • Step 5: Final Admission Offer will be made to the candidates in the first week of May 2021 on the basis of Final Score arrived after awarding the weightage scores on all the components.

How to Apply at SJMSOM-IIT Bombay?
The applicants were required to complete the online application form which was available from January 6, 2021 on the website of the B-school. The last date for filling the form was January 31, 2021.

Apart from appearing in CAT 2020 and scoring a minimum percentile in the exam, all the applicants had to apply for admission to MBA at SJMSOM-IIT Bombay separately by paying an application fee of Rs.1600/- (Rs 800/- for reserved category candidates)

SJMSOM-IIT Bombay Admission Eligibility

1) A Bachelor’s degree of 4 years duration, or a Master’s degree with at least 60% marks (55% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category) or a minimum CPI of 6.5 (6 in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category) out of 10 from the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

2) The bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of 4 years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.

3) Applicants appearing for final year of the degree and those who have completed the degree requirements and awaiting results can also apply. The applicant should have secured an aggregate of 60% marks (55% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category) or equivalent till the latest exam that has been completed and whose scores are available.

4) CA/ICWA, with a first-class Bachelor’s degree in any discipline having secured 60% marks (55% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category) in aggregate (including all years/semesters) or a minimum CPI of 6.5 (6 in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category) out of 10.

5) The candidate should have appeared in CAT 2020 exam and must score minimum prescribed sectional and overall score to become eligible for admission
