Admissions 2008: IIFT selects 226 students for 2008-10 batch; Q&A with IIFT Spokesperson on final results and GD/PI

After months of greuling tests and interviews, management aspirants can finally breathe easy. Many management institutes have announced their admission list, and several others are in the process.

Delhi based Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) announced the final admissions for two year MBA Programme on March 11, 2008. Out of 911 students, total 226 are selected for the final admissions in the new academic session. 

MBAUniverse.com asked IIFT spokesperson Dr L D Mago about the final results and how IIFT conducted its GD/PI rounds. Read on for detailed insignts on IIFT's admission process:  

Q: When did IIFT announce the final results?  

A: We announced the final results on March 11, 2008 for the coming academic session. 

Q: How many students are selected for admissions at your institute for both Delhi and Kolkata Campus?  

A: In total, we have selected 226 students for both the campuses i.e. 152 for Delhi Campus and 74 for Kolkata Campus. 

Q: How many students got calls for the GD/PI rounds by your institute? 

A: 911 students got calls for the IIFT's GD/PI rounds. 

Q: What is the total numbers of the students appeared in GD/PI at your institute? 

A: Out of 911 students, 881 students had appeared in GD/PIs at IIFT. 

Q: How did IIFT conducted its GD/PI rounds?  

A: The process of GD is conducted over a period of one hour in which first all the candidates will speak for 1-2 minutes on the topic announced.  After all the candidates have spoken the panel will be open for discussion.  However, all the candidates get chance to moderate the discussion.  This process will last for 45 – 50 minutes.   

Q: What are the key things you tried to find in the candidates during Group Discussions and Personal Interviews? 

A: For GD, one tries to find out, how meaningful views are made, leadership skills but not aggression, amount of content and quality of discussion.   

For Personal Interview candidates are evaluated on general awareness, subject knowledge, overall personality, interest in extra curricular activities, reading habits, family background, reasons for undergoing management programme, etc. 

Q: What are the topics given to the students for Group Discussions?  

A: Following are the topics which were given to the students for Group Discussions:

  • Changing Investment Pattern of Middle Class in India
  • Role of Public Broadcasting in India
  • Social Engineering is an Important Tool of change for Society
  • Population Dividend of India 

Q: What are the major questions that aspirants were asked at the time of Personal Interviews? 

A: We asked questions from current topics, running from economics, politics, sports, science, literature, music and general interest.  Candidates are also asked about subject knowledge, reasons for undergoing the programme, post-MBA career plan over a period of 5, 10, 15 years.
