FMS conducts its IT Conclave

The Systems Society of Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) Delhi held the IT conclave 'Kshitij' on the topic of 'Information Technology for Strategic Management' on September 7, 2008.

Prof JK Mitra, Dean, FMS delivered the welcome address of the conclave.

The first session was held on the topic of 'Why Leaders place IT strategy before Business strategy'. Mr Vikram Tiwathia, CIO, Confederation of Indian Industry; M. Rajdeep Sehrawat, VP – Education Initiatives, Innovation, Domestic IT market and Green IT, NASSCOM; Mr. Sachin Gupta, Practice Director, Microsoft Consulting – Enterprise Services and Mr. Kuldeep Solanki, Manager – National Marketing Team, Avaya GlobalConnect Ltd were the speakers of the first session.

Mr Tiwathia said, "The technology is an enabler of strategy and source of innovation and growth and both are inextricably intertwined."

While talking about the importance of IT in an enterprise, Mr Rajdeep Sehrawat said, "The enterprises are creating an experience for the customers through the use of IT. Efficient business outcomes can only be realised by the effective deployment of IT." 

'Role of IT as a process innovator and owner' was the topic of second session which was featured by Mr Arun Baid, Director, BFSI, Cognizant Technology Solutions; Mr. Naval Khosla, Program Manager for Government Industry Solutions and Linux Integration Center, IBM India Pvt.Ltd; Mr. Pummy Narang, Managing Consultant, PricewaterHouseCoopers Pvt. Ltd and Mr. Anil Verma, Assistant Vice President, Aricent were the speakers of this session.

While answering a query of an FMS student that 'When would India IT companies shift from being Service companies to Product companies?' Mr Baid replied, "India IT companies need not follow the footsteps of Product companies, instead they must through innovation make Products like ERP available at as a low price as Rs100 a month/user."  

'How is IT driving business process innovation?' was the topic elucidated by Mr Narang. He engrossed the house with his wide knowledge of the IT industry. Mentioning the changes in IT industry he stated how the spending and functionalities are different from the situation which prevailed a decade ago. Said Mr Narang, "The future area of focus for IT would be E-commerce, Mobility and Corporate Performance Monitoring (CPM). These are the points for achieving IT value driven business and three layers of measuring the effectiveness IT."

According to FMS, "Mr Verma explained how IT has helped Aricent to become the leading Independent Software Communication provider. He defined innovation as a process which leads to simplicity. This simplicity enables the organization to increase its penetration. His mantra for a successful organization was to develop end-to-end solution. He said that the future for IT lies in Integrated HRMS (Human Resource Management System)."
