FMS Placement 2007: Financial sector emerge major recruiter

Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi has been operating for last 53 years to produce effective managers. It has traditionally been known for Finance area.

Finance offers dominated this year placements, which close to 50% of all placements happening in finance domain. The highest paying job on campus came from the financial sector with Calyon Bank offering Rs.16 Lakhs per annum. Nearly 48% of the batch opted for a career in Finance; the rest was nearly evenly spread between IT, FMCGs, Consulting & GM. Average salary in the Banking & financial services sector was INR 13 lakhs per annum. Dubai based retailing company Jumbo Electronics made the highest foreign offer of AED 220,000.  

Dr. Madhu Vij, Placement Advisor for the FMS MBA programme said, “Exciting profiles were offered across domains by several Companies. Banking and Financial Services was the largest recruiter this year with the highest paying job also coming from the financial sector.” The top 5 recruiters included HSBC, Citibank & ABN Amro, Standard Chartered and ICICI. 

During placement process institute has witnessed 138 offers from 105 companies for its 93 students. The highest number of offers was made by Cognizant Technologies with 15. With 10 offers each, IBM, Standard Chartered Bank & ICICI Bank was a close second. On an average the highest numbers of offers were made by Banks, with 62 offers being made in all.  

Institute also touched new highs. According to FMS final placement report 2007, the Average Domestic Salary for accepted offers was INR 12.04 lakhs per annum as opposed to last year's 8.89 Lakh per annum showing an increase of 30%. Interestingly, women managers earned more with INR 12.58 Lakh per annum while their male counterparts had to contend with an average salary of INR 11.83 lakhs per annum. 

Some of the other key companies on the recruitment drive at FMS were HLL, SAP, Oracle, GE, Mercer, JP Morgan Chase, ABN AMRO, P&G, HSBC, Motorola and Infosys. 

With a successful placement process, students were a satisfied lot. Puru Gupta, Placement Secretary for FMS MBA programme, shares that at the start of the process, every student gets to choose his dream company. This year, a very high 78% of the batch converted that option thereby getting an offer from the company they aspired and dreamt of.
