McKinsey & Co is the most coveted company for placements, followed by Hindustan Unilever Limited and Boston Consulting Group, amongst India's elite B-schools.

And with the fall of top investment banks like Lehman Brothers, MBAs are finding diversified Indian companies like the Reliance Group and the Tatas more attractive. That's the finding for Teamlease-MBAUniverse.com survey probing the career aspirations amongst final year MBA students at India's top 25 B-schools.

Tata Group, in fact, moved up four places on the 'Top 25 Most Coveted MBA Recruiters - 2008' list. It was ranked as 6th most coveted company by MBAs. Last year the same survey ranked it at # 10 slot. The rise of Reliance Group is even more remarkable. Reliance moved up by whopping 10 places to claim the # 7 spot on the ranking. Last year the same survey ranked Reliance Group at #17.

Presence of other top Indian diversified companies like Aditya Birla Group and Mahindra & Mahindra on the Top 25 Most Coveted MBA Recruiters too showed that Indian MBAs are tilting in favor of homegrown success stories. Mahindra and Mahindra infact has a made its debut on this ranking this year.

Understandably, Investment Banks are running out of favour with Indian MBAs. Names like Lehman Brothers (was ranked as # 4 of the most coveted list last year), JP Morgan (ranked # 11 last year) have fallen off the list. The sentiments have also impacted some foreign banks like Deutsche Bank and Barclay's Bank, which are no longer part of this coveted list.

The void created by the fall of investment banking recruiters will be filled by strong banking brands like ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, HSBC and others. According to the survey, ICIC Bank has moved up by two places and is ranked at #5 most coveted MBA Recruiter. HDFC Bank has made its debut on this ranking and has occupied the #8 most coveted company slot! HSBC too has gained four ranks on the ranking table to emerge at #9 slot.

A surprise gainer on this ranking is Microsoft which has moved up by whopping 13 placed to be ranked as #12 most coveted company by Indian MBAs.
