XLRI Aptitude Test (XAT) will be held on January 4, 2009. MBAUniverse.com spoke to some of India's leading MBA Exam Experts to present an analysis on what to expect from XAT 09.

In this Part 2 of the XAT special, we share the advice from experts at Indore based PT Education.

As shared earlier, last year's XAT paper had 120 questions in total, split into three sections: Data Interpretation & Quantitative Ability (DI/ QA), Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning (VA/ LR) and Analytical Reasoning & Decision Making (AR/ DM). While DI/VA had 44 questions, other two sections had 38 questions each. In addition, there was an essay topic that aspirants had to attempt.

When asked how PT Education looks at last year's XAT, Said Mr Subhashish Mitra, VP Academics, PT Education, "XAT is a pretty tough test overall. A score of even around 38 (out of 120) would have seen one getting a call from XLRI. The progressive negative marking meant that students needed to take care of their accuracy levels also. We would rate the toughness levels of this test at par with the CAT."

How does PT Education look at XAT 2009? PT Education is not expecting any significant changes. Said Mr Mitra, "Nothing much will change in XAT. XAT has always been known to provide tough papers. No section can be called simple / easy or manageable. We expect low scores to again be the order of the day."

When asked for advice to the students who are taking XAT, PT Education said that MBA aspirants should expect a tough paper with low scores and not get dejected. Said Mr Mitra, "When you are taking XAT, be conceptually clear. Do not attempt too many questions - as random guessing can be counter-productive. Approx. 20% of the section weightage should be your first priority as you would need to clear the sectional cut-offs for XLRI and XIM-B calls. Look at maximising returns from any one section of your choice and comfort. In this paper it is very important that you not lose heart. Remember, the overall scores required would be less and in such a scenario, even one extra correct answer in the last minute might mean the difference between success and rejection"

This concluded our Part – 2 of XAT analysis.
