Delhi University's Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) will hold its entrance exam on January 11, 2009. MBAUniverse.com brings the last minute tips and advice on FMS 09 from experts.

But first a look at last year's paper. The FMS 2008 paper was a moderately tough paper with 110+ attempts possible out of the 175 given, and at this level of attempts, with an accuracy of 85%, a student could have expected a call from the Institute.

While analyzing each section of FMS 08 paper, Mr Subhashish Mitra, VP Academics, PT Education said, "Those students who were strong in vocabulary would have benefited as in the English Usage section, all the questions were vocabulary based. Grammar was conspicuous by its absence. Reading Comprehension was lengthy as well as tough, with a lot of inferential questions. Quant questions were distributed across all topics with a surprisingly large number - 11 - coming from Geometry (Plane and Mensuration). Everybody was bound to have found questions to his or her liking in the FMS Quant section. In the Logical Reasoning section, Data Arrangement questions had the highest weightage; and students good at this variety did very well. Considering all aspects and the toughness level of the paper, a student needed to be agile as well as conceptually clear to receive a call from FMS."

What should one expect from FMS admission test 09?

"The FMS paper pattern has hardly changed over the years. This year too, the pattern should persist. Although Grammar was absent last year, we cannot assume that this year too, the case would be the same. RC has always been of this type - lengthy and indirect and that will remain so. In the LR section, there might not be such a large number of questions from a single topic like Cubes and Dices, as last year", expects Mr Mitra.

FMS admission test 2009: Expert Advice

To get a call from FMS, Mr Mitra asks students to keep the accuracy level high in the paper. Mr Mitra said, "The same old story - if you really are serious about a call from FMS, better ensure at least 50 percentile score in each section. As a thumb rule, 30 percent of the sectional weightage should see you achieve that comfortably. An Overall score of around 350 (out of a maximum 700 - each question carries 4 marks) should help you to get a call. Therefore, accuracy also needs to be high."
