New Delhi. January 9. 11 AM. The wait for around 2.70 lakh students is finally over! Results of the Common Admission Test (CAT) have been announced by IIMs.

While the official website CATIIM.in is not accessible, owing to the huge surge in the traffic this morning, an IIM official and leading test prep companies have confirmed to MBAUniverse.com that the results have indeed been announced.

IIM Officials and representatives of leading test prep companies like TIME and PT Education confirmed the development with MBAUniverse.com around 10.30 am on Friday morning.

At CATIIM.in, the scores can be accessed by keying in the candidate's test registration number (TR No) and either the date of birth or the CAT application number on this link http://results.catiim.in/result/index.php. Candidates can also receive the results by SMS by typing in his/her CAT registration number and send it to 57333, said the official notification on CAT site. MBA students are advised to be patient while facing temporary technology glitches.

Speaking to MBAUniverse.com, an official at IIM Ahmedabad said, "Yes the results have been announced this morning." When asked about the inaccessibility of the site on the result day, the spokesperson said, "Yes, we face this problem every year. With over 2.5 lakh students logging into the systems at the same time, the systems do face the problem. But situation will ease out as the day goes on."

For those luck few who have managed to bell the CAT with high percentiles, the stage is now set for the next round of personal assessments, termed as the Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD PI) round.

In addition to the IIMs, more than 130 B-Schools across the country admit students based on their CAT scores.

Held on November 16, CAT 08 was seen as a more reasoning and analysis oriented test. Even in the quantitative or verbal ability questions, students had to think and use their reasoning ability – rather than just applying mathematical formula or grammar. The test was marginally tougher than the last CAT. While there were no big surprises, the 35-page paper was lengthy and the questions were trickier. The reading comprehension passages were lengthier than last year's CAT. There was more emphasis on language skills. CAT 2008 will be remembered for its added emphasis on testing language skills of future managers. There were 40 questions on language skills, that included 20 questions on grammar and English usage and 20 questions on reading comprehension. Students reported that quantitative section was "tough" to which CAT experts responded that "for CAT preparation is key."
