Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM B) has adopted ‘rolling placement’ process to manage its placements in these tough times.

Prof Saurav Mukherjee, Placement Chairperson at IIM B told MBAUniverse.com, “IIM B is having rolling placements this year. The Final Placement Process at IIM B commenced on February 27, which is expected to go on till early next week.”

When asked about the overall placements scenario, Prof Mukherjee commented, “Yes, the placements this year are not good as last year. There is a cut in Investment Bank recruiters and IT sectors.”

He added, “Till now about 60 companies have visited IIM B which is far less if compared to past years. We are inviting more companies to come to campus including PSUs, Consultants and others.”

Rolling placements are becoming a norm this year. India’s top non-IIM B-schools have also adopted ‘rolling placements’ strategy to beat the slowdown woes. While XLRI started its rolling placement process earlier this month, FMS Delhi kicked off its process on February 21. Similarly MDI also started the process this month, and expects the placements to go on till end of March. IIFT started the placement process in January, and expects the placements to go on till next month.

Interestingly, in comparison to last year’s placements, this year there is a decline in number of students who have opted out from placements to set up their own business. “This year only 5-6 students have decided to set up their own business as on March 3, 2009,” informed Prof Mukherjee.

Last year, IIM B placed 133 students out of the batch of 256 on Day zero itself where a total of 120 companies participated.
