There are 60 other participants, representing delegates from government departments, regulatory bodies, autonomous bodies affiliated to government and voluntary organizations, academia, professionals from business & industry and students.

While stressing on the significance of holding conference on such a relevant and vibrant issue in the current times of recession, the Centre for Corporate Governance, IIM C, says, “Corporate governance has evolved significantly during the last two decades and has had a tremendous impact on all countries and business organizations. However, there is a widespread feeling that the corporate governance model adopted by most countries has failed to deliver the desired results. The financial crisis all over the globe and the Satyam episode at home has revealed the weakness of the present corporate governance models.”

“This is the right time to review the present models and to generate ideas on how to make the model more robust. Sub topics of the conference are corporate governance in the financial sector, role and effectiveness of independent directors in the present corporate governance model, role of the auditor and the audit committee in corporate governance and corporate social responsibility,” further adds the Centre for Corporate Governance.

The Centre for Corporate Governance is an integral part of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM C). It is accredited as a ‘National Centre for Corporate Governance’ by the National Foundation for Corporate Governance (NFCG). The CCG is engaged in the research and training in the area of corporate governance.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, has set up National Foundation for Corporate Governance (NFCG) in partnership with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) and Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
