Using this platform, MBAUniverse.com reader Abhishek from Lucknow asked: Sir, I am pursuing B.Tech and currently in the 3rd year. I want to know about the books & the study material for which I should go for CAT.

Responding to the query Mr. Ulhas Vairagkar, Director, T.I.M.E, Delhi said: “Dear Abhishek, since CAT does not have a stated or prescribed curriculum, there are no standard textbooks. Most of the books available in the market cover questions from earlier test papers. You will also need to solve earlier CAT papers within the prescribed time limits to see how you score and you can then prepare accordingly. You may wish to join a test series that can help you to benchmark yourself against others to assess your percentile rank which is critical for getting a GD/PI short-listing.”

In another question posed by Vidhi Jaiswal, from Jalgaon, Maharashtra, she asked: Dear sir, right now I am appearing for S. Y. B-com. I want to know what should be my strategy for preparation of CAT 09 and in order to apply for IIMs how much I need to score in my graduation.

Responding to the query Mr Gejo Srinivasan, General Manager, IMS Learning, said, “You need to spend around 2 hours every day for 6 to 8 months to clear the CAT. The first step would be to ensure that your fundamentals in the subjects tested in the CAT viz., Math & English is in place. This will take around 3 to 4 months. Then you can start test practice. To be eligible for the CAT, you need 50% in graduation. However, you must also note that most of the B-Schools look at your graduation score for overall evaluation. Therefore, do target a distinction.”
