The Xavier Labour Relation Institute (XLRI) Jamshedpur is getting ready to open its new campus in Hyderabad. The new campus is expected to be functional by 2009.

XLRI Director Father N Casimir Raj S.J. broke this news to MBAUniverse.com: “We are planning to open one more campus in India which will be in Hyderabad. This will be a full-fledged campus built on approximately 35 acres of land. The first academic season will start in 2009.”

XLRI Hyderabad will offer both Human Resource Management and a two-year full time MBA program.

Talking about the reason behind this expansion Father Raj elaborated: “There is increasing demand of quality management education in general management and human resource management area. XLRI wants to reach out to more students and offer quality value based management education. Also, we are unable to satisfy the number of trained manpower that the industry is looking from us. Each year many leading companies return from XLRI empty handed.”

When asked why XLRI was not looking to expand its infrastructure within its current campus, Father Raj said that XLRI was a close-knit institution and expanding within the current campus would impact that spirit negatively.

Delhi was also under consideration while XLRI was thinking of expansion: “We were considering both Delhi and Hyderabad, before we closed in on Hyderabad. We thought Delhi already has many management institutes,” Father Raj said. He added that while Hyderabad has Indian School of Business, it caters to a ‘different type of market.’

XLRI’s expansion in Hyderabad will be its first move toward expansion in India. Internationally, the institute already has a presence in Dubai and Singapore.

XLRI Jamshedpur currently offers four full time programs in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations (PM&IR), a postgraduate program in Business Management, a Fellow program in Management and a General Management Program for working executives. It also offers three satellite-based programmes which includes Postgraduate Certificate in Business Management (PGCBM), Postgraduate Certificate in Human Resource Management (PGHRM), and Postgraduate Certificate in Logistic and Supply Chain Management (PGCLSCM).
