What are the implications of new ‘computer-based’ CAT for over 300,000 MBA aspirants across the country? How should they prepare for it? To discuss these challenges,  MBAUniverse.com and Dainik Jagran’s I Next newspaper is holding a series of seminar on ‘Importance of MBA & How to plan’ and ‘How to prepare for new computer-based CAT 2009’ under the aegis of ‘Management Avenues City Forum (MA-CF)’. After Kanpur, the second leg of MA-CF MBA seminar was held in Lucknow on June 14.

The seminar was addressed by Mr Amit Agnihotri, Entrepreneur, MDI Alumni & Visiting Faculty, IIM A; Mr Nikhil Bansal of IIM Lucknow; Mr Gaurav Jain, Director, IMS Learning, Lucknow; Mr Rupesh Sinha, Regional Head, IMS Lucknow and Mr Abhishek Anand, Director, T.I.M.E. Kanpur.

Addressing the seminar, Mr Agnihotri said: “In your journey towards CAT, the key is to have an attitude of a winner. Only those who are willing to walk the extra mile, prepare hard, and remain focused, will make it to top 10 B-schools.”

Nikhil Bansal, engineer, currently studying at IIM L and earlier having worked in corporate sector, said: “Now is the good time to get into an MBA because by 2011 or 2012, the economy will be booming again.” He added, “My most important advice to MBA aspirants, especially from the ‘Hindi belt’ is to read, read, and read.

Reading not just helps you with verbal ability, but also improves your ability to tackle all aspects of CAT. After all, all questions have to read and understood at great speed!” Talking about IIM L, Bansal said, “IIM L is a great institution. The first two semesters are tough! But a lot of scope for co-curricular is there.”

Mr Rupesh Sinha said CAT is a test of ‘smartness’ of a candidate. It tests its ability to manage time, find right questions to attempt and take the right decisions under pressure.

Mr Abhishek Anand, adviced aspirants to not be overly concerned with the new computer based CAT. “Yes, there are many questions in the minds of aspirants – can I skip the questions, will I have a rough paper for calculations etc. But my advice is not to worry about these things since conditions will be same for all,” said Mr Anand. He added, “Aspirants should read a lot of quality material on internet. This will help them.”

Before the seminar, MACF city leaders were chosen after interviews. These leaders are: Rajesh Pratap Singh, Mayank Jyoti.
