National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) is organizing Litmus’ 09, the annual IT conclave by the PGDITM program of the Mumbai based MBA institute on August 8, 2009. The conclave focuses on contemporary themes regarding effective use of Information Technology (IT) in Manufacturing Sector. Eminent personalities from the corporate world, academia and students from other top MBA institutes will participate in Litmus’09.

Litmus’ 09 consists of three sections, a live case study competition known as Sync-Quest, corporate panel discussion called Biz-Talk and online quiz E-NIGMA. These will be participated by business professionals and the students of top MBA institutes of India. Sync-Quest is a competition held on case studies on the current problems faced by the IT industry. The case-study method tests analytical and conceptual skills as a means of problem solving. This will give the students of the MBA institutes a chance to apply their knowledge and skills in which they have excelled so far.

The Sync-Quest also gives both the members of the corporate world and the students of the top notch MBA institutes a chance to interact with each other. “The solutions given by the students would help the companies view their problems with a fresh perspective. At the same time it presents an opportunity for the companies to fish in a talent pool of exceptional management minds,” spokesperson of Litmus’09 from NITIE said. Before the students are presented in front of the jury, the case studies submitted by them will be scrutinized, of which only the best will be chosen.

The focus of Biz–Talk is to gain an industry perspective on various matters related to the IT. This year’s Biz-Talk topic is ‘India's Prowess in IT and China’s Strength in Manufacturing: Can India parlay her success in IT services into the Manufacturing sector? ’ Explaining the same, the NITIE spokesperson said, “The true mettle of any country in terms of development and growth is fairly summed up by a glance at the performance of its manufacturing sector and the extent of the role it plays in the larger scheme of things. Sustainability is what gives the manufacturing sector an edge over others. China does seem to be doing well for itself on this front. Where fast-paced growth, however, is concerned it is the services sector that has the upper hand. In India, the IT Services sector in particular has, indeed, brought faster economic success. A robust manufacturing sector, though, continues to elude.” A theme, the importance of which cannot be overemphasized in today's competitive global and local economic conditions.

E-NIGMA, the online quiz event is the latest addition in the list of Litmus events will be held in two rounds. The first round is Quiz IT and the second one is Itinerary Hunt. Quiz IT will follow the basic quiz norms. “Participants will be given a stipulated time period to answer a certain number of questions. The earliest teams to submit the answers to each of the questions would qualify for the next round,” explained the spokesperson from the MBA institute holding Litmus’09.

According to Litmus’09 spokesperson, the second round or the Itinerary Hunt can be best explained as the amalgam of a Quiz and Treasure Hunt. “Spread across different locations on Wikimapia, the round will entail solving a string of clues, each pointing to the location of the next clue. The guiding themes of both rounds would be firmly in step with that of Litmus '09,” said the spokesperson while explaining the procedure of this round.
