Shortlisted IIM aspirants will finally get to know whether they have made it to the prestigious IIM Ahmedabad (IIM-A).

IIM-A has released its admission list on Friday evening after it received the directives from Ministry of Human Resource Development (M-HRD). According to IIM-A, it has announced admission offers for 250 seats (same capacity as that for PGP 2006-08 batch) as against 280 indicated at the time of declaring short-list of candidates for the second stage of admission process.

However, only 239 candidates have been able to fulfill the criteria. According to IIM-A, a total of 239 offers are being made to candidates belonging to General, SC, ST and PWD categories. This shortfall, according to IIM-A, is on account of “inability to fill the seats reserved for candidates belonging to ST category, in full.”

IIM-A has also clarified that the candidates being offered admission are required to submit their acceptance of the offer along with the acceptance fee on or before May 14, 2007.

In addition to 239 firm offers, another 52 candidates have been put on the waiting list. Waitlisted candidate have to wait till candidates who have been made firm offers either decline or do not do not submit their acceptance along with the fee on time. According to the IIM-A, “The wait-listed candidates would be offered admission strictly as per the rank.”

With this announcement, IIM-A has also clearly mentioned that depending on future directive of M-HRD, with regard to implementation of OBC reservation, IIM-A will offer admission for up to 30 additional seats, if required, at a later date.

Earlier in the day, HRD Ministry had sent a communication to the institutions to continue with the pattern of intake that was followed in the last academic session.

Giving a green signal, HRD ministry’s communication to IIMs said: "With reference to the Supreme Court's interim order staying the operation of Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2006 relating to Section 6 for the OBC category and in light of the matter posted for hearing on May 8, the offer of admissions for the ensuing academic year in these institutions, until further communication would be limited to the approved intake that existed during 2006-07 session and as per the policy of reservation prevailing then."
