Prometric, the agency which conducted CAT for the last two years will continue to conduct the test this year too.

Following the footsteps of IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Lucknow, which had conducted the computer based CAT in year 2009 and 2010 respectively, IIM Calcutta has taken the responsibility to conduct the CAT 2011 entrance exam.

Prof. Janakiraman Moorthy, Professor, Marketing at IIM Calcutta has been appointed as CAT 2011 Convener. Confirming the information, the official spokesperson of IIM Calcutta said, “IIM Calcutta will conduct CAT for this year. Prof. Moorthy will be the CAT 2011 Convener.”

Prometric, the agency which conducted CAT for the last two years will continue to conduct the test this year too. IIM Calcutta and Prometric will make the official announcement on CAT 2011 soon.

Last year’s exam, CAT 2010, was held in a 20 day test window between October 27, 2010 and November 24, 2010. The official announcement was made on Sunday, August 22, 2010. However, the news was first broken by MBAUniverse.com on July 12, 2010.

The Application process period was from August 30, 2010 to October 4, 2010. The last date for the online registration process was October 7, 2010. CAT 2010 saw the registration of 2.06 lakh candidates, which saw a dip from the last year, which was 2.42 lakh in CAT 2009.

Last year CAT was conducted by IIM Lucknow and IIM Calcutta and the CAT 2010 Convener was Prof. Himanshu Rai, Admission Chairperson of IIM Lucknow.

CAT 2009, the first computer based CAT, and CAT 2010 had some major differences. CAT 2009, being the first year of the computer based test could not deliver as per the expectation and encountered a major fiasco. Being the first year of the computer based test, the CAT 2009 exam reported several kinds of technical glitches such as server crash, computer screen getting blank etc. in various test centers all over India. This compelled IIMs and Prometric to schedule retest for the candidates who faced such tribulations. Then also, many candidates claimed that in spite of having an unsatisfactory testing experience, they were not allowed to take a retest, or worse still, did not receive any response from Prometric and IIM.

The schedule of CAT 2009, which was originally a 10 day schedule from November 28 to December 7, 2010, was further extended for a day, December 8, 2010. The retests were scheduled on January 30 and 31, 2011.

To avoid the technical glitches faced in the first ever computer based CAT in 2009, Prof. Himanshu Rai decided to have a longer duration for the CAT exam. Instead of 10 consecutive days, the test was held in 20 days.
