Finance is the buzz word at elite Indian B-school campuses.

Leading three Indian Institute of Managements (IIMs) have decided to launch their own magazine titled ‘The Money Manager’ to cater to wide interest. The Money Manager will focus on all issues and topics related to Finance. Finance Clubs of IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta and IIM Bangalore have come together for this initiative. According to IIMs, the magazine has already got sponsorship from global investment giant – Merrill Lynch. The first edition of the magazine will be released in September itself. Magazine will invite articles and research from leading Indian B-schools and corporate sector. IIM faculty will play the role of editors.

Nivedita Joshi, IIM-C representative working on the magazine launch, said that despite the rise in jobs in the financial services sector, there are very few avenues for students to publish their original ideas and research work in India. This magazine was conceived to fill that gap. “Each IIM publishes its own magazine on Finance; we wanted a pan IIM magazine for wider participation and audience and hence the idea was developed”, she said.

The magazine is expected to cover areas under the broad financial domain, including corporate finance, private equity, behavioral finance and quantitative finance. Covering articles on the latest developments in the financial markets, it is also expected to be a one-stop tool for preparations for the placement season for readers.

Ashish Kumar, IIM-A representative for the magazine, expects wide participation from all B-schools across the country. “Invitations have been sent to the best business schools of the country for participation in terms of articles. These entries will be adjudged by IIM faculty members and the top three would be given cash prizes as well. Participation from the industry, in the form of guest articles, is also being explored”, he said.

According to Puneet Jain, President of the Finance Club of IIM Calcutta, the magazine will have three issues a year and will also have an online copy for easier access.
