Students across major B-schools donned patriotic colours as they celebrated the country's 66th Independence Day. Several cultural and social events were hold to mark the day.

Students across major B-schools donned patriotic colours as they celebrated the country’s 66th Independence Day. Several cultural and social events were hold to mark the day. Some B-schools also hosted blood donation camps.

Prayatna, the social club of IIM-Udaipur, organised a blood donation camp in the institute premises in collaboration with the Rotary Club Meera of Udaipur, M B Hospital and NACO. More than 60 students donated blood. “The blood donation drive embodies the spirit of sacrifice and social responsibility which is marked by August 15,” said professor Janat Shah, director of IIM Udaipur.


IIM Tiruchirappalli, in partnership with the Indian Red Cross Society and Friends Blood Bank, Tiruchi, conducted a blood donation camp in its campus. The blood donation camp is the first event for the academic year 2012-13 in a series of activity planned by Elixir, the social responsibility club of the institute.

The Independence Day was also celebrated at the Indian Institute of Management Raipur with great enthusiasm. The event commenced with the flag hoisting by the director of the institute, Prof B S Sahay. Students then presented a whole gamut of performances, including solo songs, group songs, skit and group dance. They organised a race for the staff of the mess and laundry. A quiz on the Independence Day was also conducted.

Other B-schools such as BIMTECH located in Greater Noida celebrated the day and organised various events. A debate on the topic, “The formation of a new political party by Anna Hazare can renaissance to the Indian socio-political scenario” was organised. Some of the other events included Launch Pad (launching of product) followed by a quiz programme, a comedy play and dance and fashion shows.

The Indian School of Business has started an initiative to help school children from impoverished backgrounds including the blind and the deaf. At the event, Bandhan, students of this
B-school volunteered to sing, dance, teach and get taught alongside these children.

IIM, Bangalore; IMT, Ghaziabad; and MICA, Ahmedabad, were among B-schools who celebrated the Independence Day with various cultural and social activities at their campuses.
