ICICI Manipal Academy for Banking & Insurance to train 1000 officers

With a view to create industry-ready fresh talent for the fast growing banking and finance sector, ICICI Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Manipal Academy for Banking and Insurance.

The MoU is signed for offering specialized banking and insurance proLaunching the initiative, Mr KV Kamath, Managing Director & CEO, ICICI Bank, said, "To fulfill India's global aspiration and sustain the growth trajectory industry needs to invest in preparing industry- ready human talent. A high proportion of highly capable Indians have no means to quality specialized education. This initiative of ours with Manipal is to expand the industry ready talent pool."

Sharing details about the nature of tie-up with Manipal Universal, Mr K Ramkumar, HR-Head of ICICI Bank told MBAUniverse.com, "ICICI Manipal Academy of Banking and Finance is set-up by us to act as a captive human resource provider for ICICI Group. The academy will use education domain knowledge of Manipal group."  

The academy will be used as a base to train 1000 candidates that will be chosen by ICICI Bank under it's newly introduces Bank Probationary Officers scheme. Candidates will be offered a one-year post graduate diploma from ICICI Manipal Academy. Said Mr Ramkumar, "The academy will be the training ground for our probationary officer's scheme. We will have 1000 candidates in first year, 2000 candidates in second year and 4000 candidates in third year."  

The post graduate diploma programme will be fully paid-up by the bank and the students will receive a stipend during the course and the internship, after which they would start as assistant managers in the group. The programme is expected to kick-off later this year.  

The fast growing banking sector currently employs 9 lacs people. Experts project that the demand for talent in this sector will be 15 lacs people in next five years. To cater to this enormous demand, financial giant ICICI Group has taken a series of HR initiatives.
