To put the budding young managers of the institute in an environment of a live consulting challenge, Diamond Management & Technology Consultants, a global consulting firm based out of the United States, organized a competition called 'DConstruct'.

The competition was organized at Indian Institute of Management (IIM-B) on October 3. The competition exposed students to all consulting tasks -- from submission of a proposal for a Live Client Project in the telecom sector to simulated client interactions followed by a presentation to the client in the final round.

The initiative drew good response. More than fifty groups of students from IIM Bangalore participated in the event. Four groups of students were short listed for the finals and given the opportunity to interact with clients and get a feel for major international consulting projects.

Project presented by the team including IIM-B's Neetu Chitkara, Amlan Chaudhuri, Rahul Arya and Parvej won the first prize of Rs 1 Lakh.

Speaking about what the event aimed to achieve Mr. Vinod Nair, Managing Partner for India-Diamond Consultants said, "For Diamond Consulting, DConstruct is a very effective way of sharing our experiences in consulting with students at IIM-B who are aspiring to join leading management consulting firms. DConstruct is based on real client assignments and hence captures a lot of the essence of management consulting at the highest levels".

The participants too felt that apart from the vast learning they got on the telecom sector, the event exposed them to a wide spectrum of issues that a consultant faces especially with regards to managing clients right from board members to CEOs to employees at the junior level.
