I would use the word 'no surprises' as such. There will not be any major change. We are not going to add or remove any section that existed in CAT 2012 test papers: Dr Kapoor

In this interview, Dr Rohit Kapoor speaks on his new role, CAT 2013 dates, CAT 2013 Question pattern and other related issues.

Excerpts:

Congratulations for your new responsibility as CAT Convenor for 2013.

Thank you!

You have declared dates for CAT 2013. What are the important dates for the same?

The CAT 2013 will be conducted in a window of 20 days from 16 October to 11 November 2013. The CAT vouchers will be available at selected Axis Bank branches from 29 July to 24 September 2013 and the registration window will be open from 29 July to 26 September 2013.

You have announced the CAT 2013 dates much in advance as compared to CAT 2012. Any specific reason for that?

Yes. There were basically two things in our mind while announcing the CAT 2013 dates. First, the advance planning was our strength of the process and it should be exhibited also. Second, it will help CAT Aspirants with more time to make up their mind. CAT is seen as a test which opens up their avenue for a better future. With enough time in hand, the Aspirants can plan it better now.

What are the new changes or surprise that CAT 2013 is likely to throw at MBA Aspirants?

I would use the word ‘no surprises’ as such. There will not be any major change. We are not going to add or remove any section that existed in CAT 2012 test papers.

And number of questions will be 60 only…?

I am not in the position right now to confirm this. I first need to go through all this one by one. What I can say is that there will not be any drastic change.

During CAT 2012, there were complaints of technical glitches from many centres specifically in Delhi-NCR. How will you address those concerns this year.

We are going to have a meeting with our testing partner Prometric on such issues. We are going through every complaint that popped up during CAT 2012 and we will go to the root cause of the problems that incurred last year. We will examine ‘why it happened’ and ‘what we can do to avoid such things once and for all’. So, our whole objective is that CAT should be held in a very fair and secure manner.  We will closely look into all the support system involved in the process.

Your position comes with lots of responsibilities including dissemination of information to MBA Aspirants through different media. How have you prepared to carry on with your academic exercises simultaneously?

I have chalked out my strategy for the same. My plan for carrying both my academic exercise and this new administrative role is already scheduled now. Our next academic year will start from June onwards. So, considering the time constraint that I may have, I have planned my calendar for classes in advance. I love teaching and that is why I am in this profession. But side by side, I would also handle this administrative role. I am confident that both roles can be managed together.

All the best for your CAT 2013 Journey

Thanks. I need wishes from you all.
