IIM Kozhikode admits more than 50 % woman student in PGP class of 2015

IIM Kozhikode has set a new record by becoming the first IIM to admit more than 50 per cent women in its PGP batch. The percentage of woman in the new batch stands at 54 %.
According to the institute, the 17th batch of PGP has a total of 196 woman students in the batch of 361 students.

In 2010, the institute had 100 women students out of a batch of 371 which rose to 121 women in 2011 which had a batch size of 341 students. There has been a steady rise of this number from 31.5% in 2010 to 35.48% in 2011.

Speaking on the profile of the new batch, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode, said, “This year we have not only led in ensuring gender diversity but have also admitted national talent from the field of sports, music, martial arts and the social sector. Our goal is to churn out not just a competent manager but a well rounded and a compassionate human being."

The new batch for the academic session 2013-15 comprises of 85% of students with bachelor degree in Engineering and Technology; 11 % from the Commerce & Economics stream; and 4% students from Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Agriculture.

The Class of 2015 also consists of students with 0-24 months’ work experience, adding further to the diversity of students. The batch also consists of students from across the country – Southern India (27%), Western India (26%), Northern India (19%), Eastern India (12%), Union Territories including Delhi (11%) and Central India (5%). Students coming from different states like Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, Tripura and Jharkhand add more cultural diversity to the batch, the institute said.

According to the institute, the new PGP batch also boasts of several students with outstanding achievements not only in academics but sports, music, martial arts.

Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode was started in 1997 with Postgraduate Programme (PGP).
