Symbiosis International University has revamped admission process for its B-schools as it introduced single registration and single PI-WAT for admission to all its constituent B-schools for academic session 2014-16.

According to the new process, ‘One Test, One Registration, One Interview’, the candidates will have to fill  single application form for all the B-schools after registering for SNAP. The Personal Interaction (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT) will also be centralized and shortlisted candidates on the basis of SNAP and academic profile will have to appear for only one PI-WAT session unlike the past years where each of the B-schools under the University conducted their separate GD-PI sessions.  The Group Exercise (GE), which was an important part of the evaluation process until last year, has also been scrapped.

Talking to MBAUniverse.com on the changes in admission process this year, Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar,  Vice Chancellor, Symbiosis International University, said, “We have brought the complete admission process under one umbrella from this year. The process has been completely revamped. A simplified, streamlined process which is candidate friendly, convenient, advantageous and economical to a candidate has been brought in for the coming Academic session.”

On what led to the changes in the admission process, she said, “We have revamped the admission process for two broad reasons. First, based on our research, we found that candidates found it cumbersome to register separately for each B-school under Symbiosis International University. Therefore, we simplified the process by centralizing the registration and PI-WAT process for all the institutes. Second, some of our B-schools are not very well known as SIBM, SCMHRD and a few other institutes. The centralized admission process will bring more visibility to all the institutes under our umbrella.”

Dr Yeravdekar added that the university expects more applications as a result of the revised admission process. “We expect the application number to increase as a result to this simplified process. The new process of admission will also enhance the accessibility of MBA Education at Symbiosis,” she said.

Until last year a candidate used to register for SNAP Test & then register with the institutes offering his/ her choice of program by paying separate institution registration fees. If shortlisted, he/she would then attend the Group Exercise & Personal Interaction (GE&PI) process conducted by each of these institutes.

The new admission process covers all the B-schools under SIU including SIBM– Pune, SICSR, SCMHRD, SIIB, SITM, SIMS, SIMC Pune, SIOM Nashik, SCIT, SIHS, SIBM-Bengaluru, SIMC- Bengaluru, SSBM.

Under the new process, the individual institutes will shortlist the candidates for centralized Personal Interaction and Writing Ability Test (PI-WAT) on the basis on SNAP Test Score and Academic Profile Score.

According to the University, the final admission offers at these B-schools will be made on the basis of SNAP Score, Academic profile, WAT and PI. Under a 100 point scale, SNAP score, Academic profile, WAT and PI will carry weightage of 40,10,15 and 35 respectively.

SNAP Test Structure

The SNAP test will have four sections carrying total of 180 marks. While General English, QA-DI, General awareness will carry 40 marks each, Logical Reasoning will carry 60 marks. The duration of the test will be of 120 minutes.

The application fee for Snap is Rs 2,000. The Registration window opened on September 5 and will continue till November 26, 2013.

After registering for SNAP, candidates will have to go for a single registration for all the Symbiosis B-schools and will have to pay depending on the number of institute they wish to apply. The fee for applying to one institute is Rs 1,500. A candidate, however, will have to pay Rs 3000 if he wishes to apply upto 5 institutes. For applying to more than 5 institutes, candidates will have to pay Rs 500 for each institute.
