Unlike other MBA entrance examinations SNAP gives more emphasis on Analytical and logical ability which constitutes one third part of the total marks to be scored with only one fifth number of total test questions

SNAP 2014 going to be held on Dec 21, 2014 is the next important entrance test for MBA batch 2015-17 in Symbiosis International University affiliated B schools. Getting a good score in SNAP 2014 test can get the aspirant into one of the 13 Symbiosis B-schools across the country including Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM) Pune. SNAP 2014 will be held across the country in 30 exam cities.

SNAP 2014 is divided in 4 sections with a total number 150 questions. The maximum score of 180 marks can be earned by solving the test paper in 120 minutes meaning less than 1 minute per question is available to solve paper pen based test. While maximum marks and maximum number of questions in each of the 3 sections are equal, Analytical Ability has greater weightage with more marks and fewer questions.

Reasoning: Weightage is more

Reasoning section in SNAP 2014 named as Analytical and Logical Ability has higher weightage than awarded to any other section. The other 3 sections except Analytical and logical Ability comprise Verbal Ability and Reading comprehension – 40 questions of 1 mark each i.e. 40 marks; General Knowledge and Current Affairs-40 questions of 1 mark each i.e. 40 marks; Quantitative Ability and data interpretation-40 questions of 1 mark each i.e. 40 marks. The section of Analytical and logical Ability in SNAP 2014 will have 30 questions with 2 marks each i.e. 60 marks.

Candidates are allowed to attempt any section in any order but the sectional cut off in SNAP 2014 may not be compromised. One has to score at least a minimum cut off score in each of the four sections.

Analytical Ability: Key to success

It is the most striking part in SNAP 2014 exam that unlike other MBA entrance examinations SNAP gives more emphasis on Analytical and logical ability which constitutes one third part of the total marks to be scored with only one fifth number of total test questions. If an aspirant can focus on this section, he/she may be assured of getting a good score in written test.

Since SNAP 2014 will be a paper pen and Multiple Choice Questions based examination of two hours duration and candidates are allowed with blue or black ball pen, preferably black as the OMR sheet in black ink can be better read by the system, candidates should practice well and understand to synchronize between the seriatim chronological order of questions and OMR answer sheet so that the answers are correctly marked.

Tips to score high in SNAP 2014

Prof. S.K. Agarwal, expert on Verbal and Logical Ability, shares following quick tips for the benefit of prospective SNAP 2014 aspirants, with MBAUniverse.com to score more in Analytical and logical Ability.

Logical Reasoning plays a key role in SNAP. Aspirants usually do not prefer preparing it the way they prepare the quant and Verbal. There is no doubt that the syllabus for this section is scattered and not defined yet one may organise the studies systematically by placing more focus on following topics.

Seating Arrangements; Matching puzzles; Constraint based arrangements; Blood Relations – family tree; Syllogism; Proposition based followed by either deductive or inductive argument; Assumptions; Statements; Sets; Binary logic; Venn Diagrams; Clocks and Calendars; team formation; Analogy.

Problems on Analytical and logical Ability are based on natural human logics, so they can be understood and solved fairly easily, if proper attention is paid to this section. It serves as an aid to facilitate your entry to the top B-schools since it improves your percentile with a little logical understanding of the reasoning based questions.

Unlike the questions in Verbal Ability, Quantitative and Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning needs less efforts and the questions in this section can be solved by following logic and natural instincts. The only need is to practice more and more questions of similar type every day.

The vocabulary used in logical reasoning questions is different from the one used in Verbal Ability hence it is imperative that you must have the knowledge of the terminology used in this part, since the questions are formed on the topics based on the said terminology in SNAP.

Although topics on Logical Reasoning can not be restricted to above nor there is any limitation to what should and what shouldn’t appear in this section of SNAP 2014, captioned topics, if prepared well, will lead an aspirant to a well-placed position.

Higher than expected cut off score needed

The cut off for higher ranked B-school in SNAP is usually 105 to 115 which is reasonably achievable. Candidates have just come out of CAT and before SNAP, IIFT entrance has also taken place on 23.11.2014. It will be a fairly good attempt to score high in SNAP as everything lies fresh in mind. A higher focus on Analytical and logical Ability, having 30 questions, will give you an edge.

There is no need to attempt the doubtful and wrong answer options. There is 25% penalty for every wrong answer in SNAP 2014. So attempt carefully.
