XLRI Celebrates Annual Convocation; honours Corporate and academic personalities with 526 passing out students

XLRI Jamshedpur celebrated its 59th Annual Convocation on March 21, 2015

Xavier School of Management (XLRI) Jamshedpur celebrated its 59th Annual Convocation on March 21, 2015 in the presence of Mr. T. V. Narendran, Chairman, Board of Governors at XLRI & MD - Tata Steel India and South East Asia, Fr. E Abraham S.J., Director of XLRI, Dr. Pranabesh Ray, Dean, Academics at XLRI and other dignitaries. Ms. Mallika Srinavasan, Chairman & CEO, TAFE who delivered the Convocation speech, was conferred the prestigious Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace. On the occasion of its 59th Convocation XLRI also conferred Honorary Fellow Award to Rev. Fr Romuald D'Souza, S.J. Former Director of XLRI, Jamshedpur and Founder- Director, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar and Goa Institute of Management

 

The momentous occasion of Annual Convocation was celebrated with great zeal at XLRI Campus. Students donned their graduation hats and gowns after receiving their medals and certificates. 526 XLRI students received their graduating certificates and medals including 300 students of 2 years Post Graduate Programmes in Management- BM and HRM (2013-15); 112 students of 2014 batch of 15-months PGDM (General Management) Programme; 3 students of Fellow Program in Management from Jamshedpur Campus; 63 students of 3Year (Part-Time) PGDM-BM Programme 2012 – 15 batch and 23 students of  3Year (Part-Time) PGDM-BM Programme 2012–15 batch from Dubai Campus.

 

The first batch of the Global MBA Programme launched by XLRI in partnership with Weatherhead School of Management, USA and School of Economics & Management of Tongji University Shanghai, China also received their graduating certificates on completion of their 2-year course. 20 Indian students of the 2013-15 batch of the GMBA Programme were awarded the certificates and medals from their home school - XLRI and a joint certification from the 3-schools’ consortium at the Convocation.

 

Congratulating the students on their graduation day, Mr. T. V. Narendran, Chairman, Board of Governors XLRI said, “There will be tough decisions for you to make, ethical dilemmas to confront. Remember, that no matter what be the outcome, you will need to choose the righteous path. Remember, that it is you who can make a difference to those around you. This is what XLRI strives to be and this is what each and every one who leaves this portal today must be known by”. Sharing about the value based education at XLRI, Mr Narendran further added “XLRI stands for partnering progressive growth of our nation. This institution epitomises value-based education and all-round development of individuals. It is these values that set XLRI apart from other business schools in the country”.

 

In continuation of almost forty-six years tradition XLRI conferred the prestigious ‘Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Social and Industrial Peace’ on Ms. Mallika Srinivasan, Chairman & CEO, TAFE (Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited). Ms. Srinivasan also delivered the convocation speech to the graduating students. She congratulated and inspired the students with her words and shared some of her experiences on approaching work-life challenges which they may face in the corporate workplace. Expressing her gratitude to XLRI, Ms. Mallika Srinivasan said, “I am really honoured and humbled at being conferred the prestigious ‘Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Social and Industrial Peace’.

 

Speaking on the occasion Fr. E Abraham S.J., Director of XLRI said, “We are extremely happy to honour two eminent personalities this year, who have enriched our nation with immense contributions in their respective fields. We are presenting the prestigious Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Social and Industrial Peace to Ms. Mallika Srinivasan. A tireless advocate of education and healthcare development in India, Her firm focus has been on designing and developing farm equipment that meets the requirement of small farms and is cost effective for Indian farmers. The recipient of our Honorary Fellow Award, Fr Romuald D'Souza, S.J. was a visionary and an Institution Builder in the true sense. He was our Director from 1983-1989. His contribution in the field of management education in India can be witnessed in the three institutions he helped to build and flourish – XLRI, XIMB and GIM, all of which are considered premier institutions in India today.”

 

Addressing the students he said, “Have a successful and meaningful work-life balance. Whilst excelling in your work-life, engage in healthy hobbies and contribute your mite in making XLRI a global-ranking B-School”.
