The one-year post-experience management programme PGPX at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has attracted top companies for the International Immersion Programme (IIP).

Accenture, Microsoft, IBM (Singapore and India), Morgan Stanley, Unilever and Intel Capital were some of the companies that offered projects to PGPX students. According to IIM-A, this year PGPX students did several high value and high impact projects. Sponsoring companies have already put recommendations made by PGPX students into execution mode.

IIM-A had a total of 38 firms offering IIPs this year, as against 31 last year. Out of total 72 internships, 60% internships are international and rest are domestic. Some of the companies which offered IIPs this year are: Accenture, Microsoft, IBM (Singapore and India), Morgan Stanley, EDS, Unilever, Cisco, Wipro, WNS, ACS, Mphasis, Intel Capital, Pantaloon, Posco, Yes Bank, Centurion Bank of Punjab, CII, Cummins, Geometric, Patni, University of British Columbia, Govt. of British Columbia.

Several of these projects provided opportunity for students to apply their MBA learnings in a new business area. For the companies, these recommendations are innovative and immediately actionable. The work experience of PGPX students coupled with strong conceptual training at IIMA helps PGPX students bring unique perspectives on board, thus making the recommendations strategic as well execution oriented, says IIM-A. Prof. Arvind Sahay, Chairperson (PGPX) feels, this model will provide a new opportunity for companies to recruit lateral talent at middle and senior roles. Pre-placement offer discussions are in progress with around 20 companies and are expected to be closed by end of January.

Sharing some examples of projects which are expected to make significant impact, IIM-A informs, "Arvind Nahata and Suresh Darsi have worked on a project with CII on study about usage of Gujarat based ports for containerized shipments. The outcome of this work will change the face of commerce in Gujarat. Ankur Kanaglekar's and Ganesh Parkar's recommendation on SME business are already being implemented by a large IT hardware and services company. And Rohit Vohra & Rituparn Singh have crafted an India entry strategy & plan for a French company. This work has shortened their preparation time for new market entry by more than a year."
