National Insurance Academy is organizing the 17th Annual C D Deshmukh memorial Seminar to be conducted on January 14 and 15, 2016 at its campus in Pune.

National Insurance Academy (NIA) was established in the year 1980, under the aegis of Government of India and the then Insurers, the public sector insurers in India. The academy focuses on the enhancement of competencies of Insurance professionals and to equip the industry with the best of the talents.

MDP for insurance professionals
NIA has been designing, developing and conducting innovative management development programmes (MDPs) for insurance professionals at senior and middle levels of management from insurance and allied sectors from inception.

Full time PGDM equivalent to MBA
With effect from 2004 NIA has launched a 2 year full time residential PGDM programme to create a stream of young talent for the insurance, pension and allied sectors.

The PGDM programme at NIA is approved by AICTE and is recognised as equivalent to MBA by Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

NIA organises a seminar every year to honour Shri C D Deshmukh, the pioneer who led consolidation of Life Insurance companies in India and formed Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). The seminar is conducted with an endowment created by LIC of India.

Shri C D Deshmukh graduated from Cambridge and topped the ICS exam. He went on to become the first Indian to be the Governor of Reserve Bank of India and later became the finance minister of India. During his tenure, the Life Insurance Corporation was established.

The 17th Annual C D Deshmukh seminar will deliberate on the impact of the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Act, 2015. The deliberations will revolve around the theme ‘Legislative changes in the Life insurance industry- seamless integration’. The Seminar will be held on the 14th and 15th of January, 2016 at NIA, Balewadi, Pune.

NIA has invited technical paper on ‘Impact of Insurance laws (Amendment) Act on FDI inflow and likelihood of mergers and acquisitions in the industry”. The selected papers are eligible for prizes.
