Final Placements '08: IIM Calcutta Lateral-placements record new highs

IIM Calcutta witnessed a record number of lateral placement offers this year with a total of 148 offers.

These offers being made across a variety of sectors including consulting, commercial banking, private equity, wholesale banking, IT Management, General Management, Real Estate and Hospitality. Average annual package offered was Rs 14.15 Lakh with a highest domestic offer of Rs 21 Lakh.   

Lateral placements at IIM Calcutta continued to attract a large pool of companies from across sectors and geographies with as many as 42 companies visiting the campus over a period of 45 days offering key responsibilities within India and abroad including major business locations such as US, Europe, Middle East and South-East Asia.  

Says IIM-C, "The success of the Lateral Placement process reinforces IIM Calcutta's hegemony as the top avenue for aspiring managers with substantial work-experience."  

The major recruiters at IIM-C campus included first time recruiters such as Lebua Group, Barclays Bank, ICRA management consulting, Raheja Group, Caterpillar and Lime Group. Other recruiters included consulting giants such as Deloitte, KPMG, PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Ernst n Young (EnY); prominent banks such as Standard Chartered, Yes Bank, Barclays Bank also recruited in big numbers for consumer banking, corporate finance, wholesale banking and capital market positions. Some firms even offered the much coveted private equity positions demonstrating the growing recruiter confidence in IIMC graduates. 

According IIM-C, a new feature this year was the emergence of key real estate firms as a preferred choice for many students. Firms such as DLF Group, Raheja Group, Lodha Group, Unitech gave more than 20 offers for key management positions in this fast growing sector. 

Happy with the recruitment results so far, placement coordinator Srikrishna Swaminathan, said "Students at IIM Calcutta are in the best position across all B-Schools in India with a dream job already in hand and having a possible shot at another dream job in the final placements commencing March 8. The success of the laterals process once again highlights the faith reposed by industry in the students at IIM Calcutta as future business leaders."
