Management Development Institute Gurgaon, one of India’s leading B-schools, recently celebrated the 20th edition of Delphique, its annual National Management Convention and a most-awaited event in the institute’s calendar. More than 800 participants, 24 companies and 65 industry stalwarts attended the 3-day event organized from Nov 18 to 20, 2016.

This year’s Delphique was buzzing with intense discussions around interesting topics such as the growth of Patanjali, Bond markets and alternative funding sources for infrastructure sector, Benchmarking of Indian cigarettes industry vis-a- vis foreign markets and Employer branding on social media.

Staying true to its theme of Research, Review and Resolve, the students this year carried out on spot survey to understand how India has been reacting to the election of Donald Trump as the president of the United States of America and on the recent demonetization drive announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Interestingly, big percentage of the sample group comprising eminent industry leaders and students of MDI who took part in on the spot survey felt that Indo-US political and defence relations will improve during Trump’s tenure while few felt that there is likely to be slowdown in the IT sector.

Through this on spot survey the sample group felt that the recent demonetization drive could actually curb black money in the long run. The panelists from the participants only, however, did not agree to the prediction that India might face a subdued GDP growth.

Delphique, a 3-day event, began with Shri Rajeev Talwar, CEO and Whole-time director, DLF Ltd. and Mr. Robert Menzies, Head- Strategy and corporate planning, Godrej Industries Ltd. being the inaugural speakers. Attended by eminent personalities such as Ms. Sofia Eriksson, Global Head of Communications at Ericsson India Global services; Mr. Rajesh Kurup, Managing Director at Millward Brown; Mr. Sanjay Bakshi, Managing Partner at ValueQuest Capital; Mr. Kiran Ramamurthy, Senior Vice president at Ogilvy & Mather; Mr. Pawan Singh, Director – PTC India Financial Services, these discussions were an extensive learning experience for the students, filled with insights and industry expertise.

One of the major highlights of Delphique was the Cerebro-National Case Study competition, which was conducted in association with The Times Group. More than 200 participants across top B-schools in India took part in the competition, with the scenarios getting tougher in each round.  A new entrant in this year’s Delphique was Vincenza-a business plan and start-up idea competition organized in association with Indian Angel Network and VCCircle. The event even saw international participation with teams from UK which were affiliated with the Erasmus Student network.

Commenting on the event, Prof. A. K. Jain, Chairperson Student Affiars said, “Events such as Delphique are essential for the students as they gain a practical perspective to things through the eyes of the leaders in the corporate arena. The intense discussions, Q&A sessions, competitions are akin to mind workout sessions for these prospective management professionals. These events are the cornerstone of our vision to achieve a confluence of in-depth research, innovation through new thinking, and industry expertise, to address the collective need of efficient problem solving in today’s dynamic business landscape.”

The 3-day event was sponsored by YES Bank and The Times group, with able support provided by IDBI Bank, Teakwood Leathers and BMW Bird Automotive.
