Confusing CAT Score Scaling formula penalizing Higher Scorers?
On January 1, number of candidates who could view their score card and have shared that the source code leak of CAT 2018 Result has revealed that the raw scores have been multiplied by a certain factor to obtain the scaled scores. With this formula, Slot 1 candidates with higher raw marks got penalized by more marks - 3-4 in some cases. However, those getting less than 50 raw in Slot-1 Quant were upscaled by 0.1 to 0.3 and those getting more than 50 raw marks in Slot-1 Quant were downscaled by -0.6 to -1.3. Similar result has been reported for Slot-2 Quant also. Now the candidates are seeking justification.

CAT 2018 Result on Mobile

CAT Result was declared in the afternoon on January 8, 2016 but before that it leaked in morning and before the candidates could download their score cards, the site was blocked with the message ‘The Login to form will be available only between 25-10-2015 12 Hours 45 Minutes to 08-01-2016 10 Hours 36 Minutes.’ It created chaos among the candidates who were waiting for the official declaration of result and thought that the publication of the result on the site meant the final result. However, the then CAT convener, Prof Tathagata Bandyopadhyay confirmed that it was due to the technical glitch on part of TCS due to which the result could be viewed.
It is the usual practice that CAT site login gets blocked for some time before declaration of result as massive activity has to be done before publishing the CAT result. The server also gets overflowed sometimes and therefore it has to be ensured that the CAT result publication remains smooth and glitch free.
It appears that TCS just forgot to block the login while processing the CAT 2018 result and placed it in public domain instead. This facilitated the candidates to get temporary access to their result. Neither IIM Calcutta nor TCS has denied the fact that the access to the result was enabled due to technical glitch but no leakage of the result has been reported and admitted either by CAT Centre 2018 or TCS the testing partner.
Instead of getting swayed by their accidentally viewed CAT score cards, candidates are advised to check their scores on Mobile and get the score cards after CAT 2018 result is out in detail and see whether they have scored the qualifying sectional percentile necessary for IIMs in admission 2019.
