Aspirant friendly step
Deviating from earlier practices in CAT registration process when no such edit facility of error correction was allowed after submitting the registration form and candidates had to re-register after making payment of registration fee again, IIM Lucknow following IIM Bangalore has allowed the CAT 2017 aspirants to edit the mistakes discovered after submission of the CAT application.

This is for the second time in continuation that IIMs have enabled an option to correct mistakes, discovered after submission of the CAT application. The error correction option is available on the CAT Application form Webpage from September 27 to 30, 2017 and will close after that.

CAT 2017 test takers can now correct the errors in their already submitted CAT 2017 application form. This facility began in CAT 2016 and was not allowed prior to that. In case of any mistake in CAT registration, the only remedy used to be re-registration.

Not many errors you can edit
According to Prof Neeraj Dwivedi, CAT 2017 convener and faculty at IIM Lucknow, “After you submit the application, there will be a limited time window during which can you modify very limited details like percentage of marks scored, work experience, programmes names / interview city centers.” No other details are allowed to be edited.

You can edit only certain details in the submitted CAT 2017 registration form during the limited time error correction window from September 27 to 30, 2017. 5 mistakes in CAT registration that you can edit till September 30 include limited details on Percentage of Marks scored, Work Experience, IIM Programmes Selected and interview cities.

Edit option in Academic details

Class 10 Marks
You can edit the details entered in percentage of marks column of class 10/SSC or equivalent.

Class 12
If you have not been able to enter correct percentage of marks for class 12/HSC or equivalent you will have the opportunity to correct the same. The error might have occurred due to any reason – for example CGPA or letter grades are awarded instead of percentage and you might have entered the wrong equivalent percentage of marks which may adversely affect your merit score while getting shortlisted by IIMs. Make sure that the percentage of marks is entered correctly this time.

Please remember almost all the IIMs have defined the good range of weightages for class 12/HSC  percentage of marks in shortlisting criteria.

Bachelor’s degree marks
IIMs will also award high weightage to percentage of marks obtained in graduation. This weightage will be taken into account by some of the IIMs during shortlisting for PI round and by other during generation final merit list.

Since most of the institutions/universities have started awarding letter grades or CGPA in graduation, it is very much necessary that your percentage of marks are correctly calculated and entered in CAT 2017 registration form. Accordingly, you should ensure that there is no mistake and right percentage of marks is filled up in the CAT 2017 application.

Work experience: Quality & Length-Both important
IIMs also award good weightage to work experience either in shortlisting or at the time of generating the final merit list. The work experience has to be entered in months and a work experience of more than 3 years gets low weightage. Please check that you have entered correct length of work experience in months.

Apart from this, the area of work experience is also important. The industry where you have worked with and the area in which you have worked, both are equally important. Accordingly you should check that correct details have been entered in this column of CAT 2017 application form.

IIM Programmes & Interview cities
There are 20 IIMs who altogether offer more than 40 management programmes. You must choose after proper thought process which programme you would prefer and which will be your interview city, if shortlisted.

In case you filled up the details in a hurry, it will be difficult for you to select the right programme and right interview city for the said programme. Make sure that you arrive at the right decision without fail.

No edit option for other Errors
You cannot edit certain personal details like Name, Date of Birth, email id, mobile number in the CAT 2017 application form. If you have made a mistake in these details, you were supposed to register again with a new email ID till September 25, the last date to submit the registration form.

If you have made mistakes in these details, please note that you will not receive a refund or Admit Card for your registration. The best way is to contact CAT 2017 help desk and get the solution from them.

Edit option available only once
CAT 2017 test takers can correct the errors in their application form only once till they submit their application form after error correction during the 4 days error correction window.

Number of candidates who login to edit the CAT application errors and click on ‘submit’ without completing the modification would not be able to login again for application error corrections. If there are still 1 or 2 details to rectify in CAT application form, the Edit option wouldn’t allow you to login again to correct the remaining 1 or 2 mistakes.

You should correct the errors only after gathering all the required options and right documents as the facility once used will be closed for you.

Registration process for CAT 2017 was opened on August 9, and was closed at 5 PM on September 25 after getting an extension of 5 days from the earlier last date of September 20, 2017.
