The Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Ghaziabad has recently concluded Orientation Lectures for the new batch of students for 2014-16. Eminent personalities from various corporate houses shared their experience and knowledge with new students of PGDM courses. More than 600 students from all courses attended these lectures and gained knowledge from the corporate icons.

IMT Ghaziabad Invited top Managers at Orientation Lectures beginning June 10, 2014 and spread over till June 15.  While Dr Bibek Banerjee, Director, IMT Ghaziabad welcomed the new batch and shared his rich experience for their better future, eminent speakers from Corporate sector shared the knowledge and experience with the students.  Mr. Ankur Warikoo, (Regional Head, APAC Emerging Countries), Mr. Nitish Kapoor (MD & GM - Reckitt Benkiser India), Mr. Subhomoy Roy choudhary (HR Director - Reckitt Benkiser), Mr. Sanjiv Malik (MD - Blackrock India), Mr. I P Tiwari (COO - GE Healthcare India) and Mr. Himanshu Tambe (Senior Partner – Accenture) shared their professional experience and current scenario in corporate world.

Mr. Ankur Warikoo, Regional Head of APAC Emerging Countries - India, Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines, shared his views on Internet as a Career Option and cited valid points to take up no other business but internet. He shared his experience and said ‘You will always be the average of five people close to you with whom you spent most time’
According to Warikoo technology is taking over the world and example is Smart Phone. While it took ten years to reach the first internet billion, second internet billion took only four years. Future will see many changes with internet. As of now it is the least figured industry. India’s internet population is 80-120 million and the size of Indian e-commerce business is $15 billion hence promises are very much there.

Mr. Warikoo also gave inputs to students on how the next Two years will define their future and suggested not to play safe, bet on tomorrow and have one motto in life ‘Do Epic sheet’.

Mr. Nitish Kapoor, MD & GM of Reckitt Benkiser India spoke about Market share, Profitability and Marketing Communication. He stressed on Organisation Growth through - Sources of Manufacture, Health & Hygiene and Inputs on Ethics. Mr. Kapoor shared the vision of Reckitt Benkiser and four core Values necessary to drive the organization- Humane; Entrepreneurship; Partnership and Ownership.

Sharing his rich experience he guided the students to judge organisations and their future employers on 4 basic characteristics comprising Depth of Experience; employer that gives Diversity and Value; Work for a Cause; Have fun at work and no compromise

In the next orientation session Mr. Sanjiv Malik, MD- Blackrock India and Mr. I P Tiwari, COO- GE Healthcare India shared their experiences. Mr. Sanjiv Malik shared the success story of Blackrock, its merger with various companies and Blackrock’s culture, which can be an inspiration for budding managers. Mr. Malik started with ‘Success Recipe’, stated: “Everybody gives different recipes for Success but it is not sure that every recipe will give you right result, because each one of you is different. So you have to tweak the recipe according to your personality.”

About Blackrock, Mr. Malik said that the organisation’s success depends on three factors – Clients, Shareholders and Employees. Mr. Malik discussed about the culture of Blackrock, which is one of the factors of the success of this trillion dollar company.

He emphasized on 3 main points for the success of an organization - No Hierarchy; don’t be bookish and have social interaction. In his view organizations should have opportunity for junior workers to speak up and open dialogues with seniors without feeling shy.  Advising the future managers he said ‘You should learn new things for the sake of learning only, not for certificates’ and added ‘Always prefer one-to-one direct social interactions’. In his opinion an organization can stand on Trust, Risk management and performance that keep us ‘Innovating’ and ‘Adaptabe to Change’.

In the next session Mr. I P Tiwari, COO- GE Healthcare India spoke about the importance of Sales department in an organisation and shared ‘Every single role can make a huge contribution in the industry. And it’s actually for you to define the role. If you don’t like any particular role, you make it interesting and glamorous and enjoy your job.’ Mr. Tiwari stressed on the fact that Sales is a very important part of an organisation.

After every session, students were encouraged to ask questions to the speakers that made the Orientations interactive. These sessions helped students to understand different departments and sectors of various industries. The speakers also advised students on what they can do in their next 2 years.
