Learning from the last year must have prompted IIM Gaya in Bihar to reduce the minimum qualifying overall percentile in CAT 2015 from 96.3 to 90 for PGP batch 2016-18
At present IIM Gaya has strength of 30 students instead of announced intake of 60 while Ministry of Human Resource Development proposed the intake for the first batch at 140 to be upgraded to 560 during the next 7 years

Pegging a high minimum percentile required for admission to PGP 2015-17 batch in CAT last year,  resulted in very low number of candidates showing interest in IIM Gaya. The learning from the last year must have prompted IIM Gaya in Bihar to reduce the minimum qualifying overall percentile in CAT 2015 from 96.3 to 90 for PGP batch 2016-18. Not only this, IIM Bodh Gaya has also decided to conduct Written Ability Test and Personal Interview under the aegis of IIM Calcutta, the mentor IIM to IIM Gaya.

The minimum CAT percentile required to be considered for admission to the first PGP batch 2015-17 at IIM Gaya was 96.3 while IIM Calcutta the mentor IIM to IIM Gaya prescribed only 90 for its admission. Even for admission 2016 to its flagship PGP 2016-18 batch IIMC has prescribed only 90  percentile in CAT 2015 and this could be the guideline for IIM Gaya also.

At present IIM Gaya has a strength of 30 students instead of announced intake of 60 while Ministry of Human Resource Development proposed the intake for the first batch at 140 to be upgraded to 560 during the next 7 years. But instead of achieving the bare minimum strength of the batch of 60 students, IIM Gaya is running with 50% students. The full name of  IIM in Gaya is IIM Bodh Gaya since the name of the city is known by Bodh Gaya but known more popularly as  Gaya.

CAT 2015 score is proposed to be the only criteria in shortlisting candidates for PI-WAT round for admission to flagship PGP 2016-18 batch at IIM Gaya. All other factors like academic profile and diversity, work experience would play their role in arriving at position in the final merit list before making admission offer to the eligible candidates.

Quick Analysis: Contradictory facts
A quick analysis on the shortlisting criteria of IIM Gaya for PGP 2016-18 reveals a contradictory fact that although the minimum qualifying CAT 2015 percentile for general category candidates has been reduced, it has been increased substantially for all other categories. It is very much possible that IIM Gaya got more admission seekers from other than General category as the required percentile for them was fixed at lower level.

Apart from this, IIM Gaya has fixed the minimum required sectional percentile for shortlisting as high as required by top rated IIM Calcutta. It is very much possible that IIM Gaya might have to reduce it further to attract more admission seekers to this new IIM.

Get ready for PI & WAT: No GD at IIM Gaya
As against the admission process for PGP 2015-17 batch which had no separate physical GD; PI or WAT, IIM Gaya proposes to conduct Written Ability Test (WAT) followed by Personal Interview (PI) as the final admission process before offering admission letter to the selected candidates. There would not be any Group Discussion (GD) round at the final stage of admission process at IIM Gaya.

Final Selection at IIM Gaya
Final selection at IIM Gaya will be based on the ranks of the candidates computed separately for each category (General/SC/ST/NC-OBC/DAP) on the basis of their Final Scores (FS). Minimum qualification would not automatically qualify the candidate for admission into IIM Bodh Gaya  The numbers selected in different categories will be in proportions mandated by the law.

A candidate’s final score for selection is calculated on the basis of the following criteria and their weights to be used for the final selection for PGP for the batch 2016-18.
