IIM Gaya: Academic session begins with half of the intake; pegs even higher CAT 2015 percentile than mentor IIM

IIM Gaya has begun its maiden academic session with 30 students instead of 60 who were supposed to seek admission at IIM Gaya mentored by IIM Calcutta. Surprisingly the minimum CAT percentile required to be considered for admission to the first PGP batch 2015-17 at IIM Gaya is 96.3 while IIM Calcutta the mentor IIM to IIM Gaya prescribes only 90 for its admission. Even for admission 2016 to its flagship PGP 2016-18 batch IIMC has prescribed only 90  percentile in CAT 2015.

The first academic session of IIM Gaya was inaugurated by Smriti Irani the Union HRD Minister. The classes of IIM Gaya would be held in the transit campus of the Magadh University’s directorate of distance education (DDE) building.

The mentor director to IIM Gaya Shaibal Chattopadhyay director of IIMC is very optimistic on the holistic development of IIM Gaya and proposes to make it an international B-school in the coming years.

90 hostel rooms at IIM Gaya have been provided for accommodation but the first batch students occupying the rooms are fewer than anticipated due to the rigid admission policy for PGP 2015-17 batch.

IIM Gaya will continue to be mentored by Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. During the mentorship period and while IIM Gaya’s own faculty are recruited, faculty members from IIM Calcutta will be delivering courses at IIM Bihar. This may include a few visiting faculty selected by IIM Calcutta to meet their exacting standards. The overall design, quality and delivery of PGP will be to the standards and with direct involvement of IIM Calcutta

IIM Gaya: Admission 2016
CAT 2015 score is proposed to be the major criteria in shortlisting candidates for admission to flagship PGP 2016-18 batch at IIM Gaya. It is expected that the minimum CAT 2015 percentile requirement for admission in 2016 might be relaxed to some extent by IIM Gaya after learning lesson from fixing high CAT percentile in the first academic session.

Besides, academic profile and diversity, work experience would also play an important role in admission process at IIM Gaya in 2016.

Out of the 6 new IIMs, IIM Gaya is the 3rd IIM after IIM Nagpur and IIM Amritsar that have commenced  classes for the first PGP batch 2015-17.

Permanent campus of IIM Gaya as per the decision and agreement arrived at, will also be built up at Magadh University Campus on 119 acres of land lying vacant in the premises. Magadh University has completed all the requisite formalities to transfer the land for construction of IIM Gaya.

IIM Gaya is one of the 6 new IIMs announced by the Government of India during the budget session 2014-15. The state of Bihar was awarded one IIM out of the announced six in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Punjab.  The full name of  IIM in Gaya is IIM Bodh Gaya since the name of the city is known by Bodh Gaya but known more popularly as  Gaya.
