Proper balance on attempts in each section has to be maintained in MAH CET 2016 else it may not be possible to qualify in all the sections despite scoring high overall percentile

MAH CET 2016 for admission to MBA/MMS 2016-18 batch is going to be held as online computer based exam with a duration of 150 minutes on March 12 & 13, in multiple sessions across 40 test cities in the country. The test will have 3 sections and the candidates will have the freedom to move from one section to other within overall time limit of 150 minutes and will be allowed to attempt any question from any section.

It may prove to be a good opportunity to utilize the time saved on one section to solve the questions in other section but proper balance on attempts in each section has to be maintained in MAH CET 2016 else it may not be possible to qualify in all the sections despite scoring high overall percentile.

3 major sections with 2 sub sections on Reasoning
The syllabus and marking scheme for MAH CET 2016 as announced by Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra has clarified that the exam will be divided in 3 major sections and in all 4 sub sections with total number of 200 MCQs carrying maximum 200 marks.

The section on reasoning will contain 2 parts – Logical Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning and will comprise the lion’s share in number of questions in the MAH CET 2016 exam.

MAH CET 2016: Avoid free ride
Although the liberty to move from one section to other in MAH CET 2016 can prove aspirant friendly, Prof S K Agarwal expert on Verbal Ability and mentor on test preparation advises the aspirants to manage time and maximise the attempts to score high percentile in all the sections to get shortlisted for top B-schools like JBIMS, SIMSREE, K J Somaiya, N L Dalmiya, PUMBA among others.

Use judiciously if target is JBIMS
According to Prof S K Agarwal, mentor on MAH CET 2016 preparation, scanning the entire test paper with no target is not good as it will result in wastage of time which is very important.

Freedom of moving from section to another sounds musical but it could be a trap also. If you go on solving questions only from one section, it’s quite possible that you miss many such questions from other sections that you could have solved. This will reduce your sectional percentile. Low sectional percentile may result in not getting allotted the JBIMS or other top B-school in CAP round. So beware of the free ride and manage between all the sections.

Use the opportunity to maximise attempts
Aspirants have liberty to move from one section to other without any restriction. But again you have to manage the time by dividing it among all the sections. MAH CET 2016 allows you to attempt 1 question in 45 seconds as there will be 200 questions to be solved in 150 minutes. If you go strategically, there is sufficient time.

Always prefer to solve those questions in first attempt which you can solve confidently. Number of such questions calling your attention in the first attempt may not be more than 40-50 out of 200 and you may be able to solve them with an average time of 1 to 1.25 minute each.  If you can solve 120 out of 200 with 100% accuracy in 5-6 attempts, you are the winner as you will be able to hit around 40-50 answers correct out of the rest 80 questions without any fear of negative marking and may get your dream B-school in CAP 2016.

Don’t have a biased mind
Don’t think that you will be able to solve a fixed number of questions only out of 200. If you are afraid of some particular type of questions, try to improve on them now. If you are unable to overcome your weakness, don’t waste your time and focus on other topic questions.

Use guess work judiciously
Although there is no negative marking in MAH CET 2016, still unnecessary guess work may bleak your chances of getting the top B-school like JBIMS since the guess work is fraught with the risk of getting more wrong than right. Use your guess when you have to make it between 2 options. If it is made randomly taking along all the 5 answer options without arriving close to answer, it may not prove to be a good idea.

JBIMS Mumbai can offer you admission to its flagship MMS 2016-18 batch, if you score somewhere between 155 to 160 marks out of 200 marks in MAH CET 2016. Scoring that much may not be a difficult task, given the fact that MAH CET 2016 may not be as tough an exam as CAT or XAT.

DTE Maharashtra conducts MAH CET for admission to MBA/MMS/PGDM programmes in 400 B-schools of Maharashtra. There are around 59000 seats in all the Maharashtra B-schools including JBIMS, SIMSREE, K J Somaiya among others for which admission is offered in various management programmes. Registration process for MAH CET 2016 written exam was closed by DTE Maharashtra on February 23, 2016. It is expected that registration for CAP 2016 round might open sometime in May 2016 for all the candidates who wish to participate on other all India test scores like CAT/XAT/CMAT/MAT/ATMA apart from MAH CET 2016 scores.
