Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) Greater Noida celebrated the 34th Commencement Day virtually for its PGDM 2021-23 batch comprising more than 400 students and their family members. Since the landscape of education has been reconstructed owing to the enormous crisis the world has encountered due to the pandemic, the educational institutions across the world have adopted a new way of life with the best of the knowledge and resources. All kinds of events that are crucial in a student's life have made innovative virtual shifts.
Chief Guest on the occasion was Mr CP Gurnani, MD and CEO, Tech Mahindra and the Guest of Honour was Mr Ronnie Screwvala, Co-Founder and Chairman of UpGrad. Director BIMTECH Dr H Chaturvedi, Dy. Director Dr Anupam Varma, were among the dignitaries who welcomed the batch on virtual platform. The virtual ceremony also saw the unveiling of the annual activity reports of the Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development of Atal Incubation Centre of BIMTECH by Mr. Ronnie Screwvala.
The Commencement day at BIMTECH is a time of great ceremony, pageantry, and rejoicing, much of it representing traditions that are decades old in this unique academic celebration. The event was attended, among others, by 400+ freshers and their family members, having multidisciplinary educational and cultural backgrounds. The new batch comprising of the four PGDM programs including PGDM-Core, PGDM-International Business, PGDM- Insurance Business Management and PGDM-Retail Management represented culturally diverse mini-India with students from 26 states promoting gender diversity with a male-female ratio of 60:40.
BIMTECH 2021-23 Batch Profile: Key Highlights
- Cultural Diversity: Students from 26 states having an eclectic background and impressive profiles
- Students have joined almost from every city of the country, from Pulwama to Palakkad & Surat to Silchar, striving to get the best learning opportunities. 36% of the students are from states other than northern India
- Gender Diversity: Gender ratio in the batch has improved this time, it has 40% female and 60% male students
- Work Experience: 25% of the students are with quality work experience
- Academic Diversity & Academic Excellence: The new batch consists of 50% students from Commerce, 30% from Engineering and 20% from Science & Humanities. This is very affirmative from the diversity point of view. 80% of the total admitted students are throughout first class. Several students in the new batch are exemplary achievers in their chosen fields besides being good at academics
The commencement day ceremony started at 6 P.M. with Saraswati Vandana followed by a welcome address by the Board of Governors of BIMTECH. This was followed by Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi, Director, BIMTECH welcoming the new batch and enlightening them about the institute and its revolutionizing approach towards imparting education, recent developments and the way forward.
The Chief Guest, Mr. C.P. Gurnani, Managing Director and CEO of Tech Mahindra spoke about top skills in the current business environment and stressed on the winning formula of ‘unlearning, learning and re-learning.’ He also appreciated BIMTECH’s technology-oriented management curriculum which fits the future demands of the Information Technology sector and the digital economy and spoke about his proudly association with BIMTECH. An accomplished business leader with extensive experience in international business development, Mr. Gurnani believes that one cannot ride the growth path with resources that are out of sync with market dynamics. He described empathy and sensitivity as the two traits to excel in one’s professional and personal life and said, “Students are the reflection of new India. Bonding with your alumni and community is the most important part of students’ B-school journey.”
The Guest of Honour, Mr. Ronnie Screwvala, Co-founder & Chairman, UpGrad, is a first-generation entrepreneur who pioneered Cable TV in India, built one of the largest toothbrush manufacturing operations and went on to create a Media & Entertainment conglomerate, UTV. He is driven by his interest in championing entrepreneurship and recently launched his book 'Skill It, Kill It' which introduces a new perspective to success. He founded UpGrad, an Online Education Company focusing on post-graduation, higher studies and specialization areas. He said, “We are entering a very exciting phase, full of opportunities in which soft skills are crucial for students.”
BIMTECH has ventured into an AICTE affiliated online PGDM course with UpGrad as a partner to impart the best theoretical knowledge, analytical & technical skills in this evolving educational era to produce responsible citizens and leaders of corporates with its Centre of online studies. Mr. Screwvala also runs The Swades Foundation which aims to empower lives in rural India through a unique 360-degree model implemented via various initiatives and serves as an inspiration to the new students in terms of community building and giving back to the society.

The solemn occasion concluded around 7:30 p.m. with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Anupam Varma, Deputy Director, BIMTECH followed by the National Anthem. With boosted morale and ignited aspirations, the event set the tone and context for the Common Orientation which was held on July 24, 2021.
Birla Institute of Management Technology was established in 1988 under the aegis of the Birla Academy of Art and Culture, and supported by Birla group of companies. Dr. (Smt.) Sarala Birla, chairperson of Birla Academy and Syt. B K Birla, chairperson of B K Birla Group of companies are the founders of the business school. The Board of Governors is comprised of eminent people from industry.
BIMTECH offers two year full time AICTE approved PGDM programmes in general management (PGDM), PGDM-International Business, Insurance Business Management (PGDM- Insurance Business) and retail Management (PGDM-Retail). The Centre for Research Studies conducts doctoral programmes and academic and industry focused research.
