“In our discussion based learning environment, diversity in student backgrounds and experiences helps enrich the learning process by bringing in different perspectives to the class” Professor Ashish Nanda, Director, IIM Ahmedabad

What IIM Ahmedabad planned to achieve 2 years ago by introducing a totally revamped CAT exam to improve academic and gender diversity in IIM class rooms, the class profile for PGP 2017-19 batch reveals that the goal has been achieved to a large extent. The PGP batch 2017-19 at IIM Ahmedabad comprises 32% non-engineers. This number is more than three times the percentage of non engineers who were only 9 percent three years back in the PGP batch 2015-17 and highest ever in last 15 years.

Registration for the new batch of PGP and PGP-FABM at IIM Ahmedabad culminated on June 30, 2017 with one of the most diverse batches ever, in terms of gender and educational background, joining the Institute.

Professor Ashish Nanda, Director, IIM Ahmedabad said, “In our discussion based learning environment, diversity in student backgrounds and experiences helps enrich the learning process by bringing in different perspectives to the class. We at IIMA are delighted to welcome this diverse group of incoming students.”

Non-engineers constitute 32% of the students who have joined PGP Program this year, the highest ever in more than 15 years. Professor Apratim Guha, Chairperson, Admissions, IIM Ahmedabad, explains the scenario “Our admissions policy is to invite for interviews candidates from different academic disciplines based on their academic performances, subject to their clearing certain CAT cut-offs. This approach increases the discipline diversity of our incoming class. This is part of a conscious effort to improve the in-class learning experience of students, who we believe would benefit from being in class with people from diverse background.”
