Fashion house Pearl to set up a B-School in India

PSB signed MoU with Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, on April 30 to offer the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in India from the academic year 2007-2008.

Dr Ashutosh P Bhupatkar, adviser, Little People Education Society Gurgaon, a body from the Pearl group that will operate the venture, said, The session for our DBA program will commence from July 2007.

PSB aims to develop the entrepreneurial talent in India and other Asian countries towards creating and leading globally competitive enterprises. Commenting on the tie-up between AIT and PSB, Dr Bhupatkar said, There is enough scope of applied research in India. The major objective of our tie-up is to bring out quality education to train managers, entrepreneurs and faculty in management education. The tie-up would allow both the institutes to exchange students, faculty and teaching material, he added.

DBA will be a three-year course designed specially for managers and entrepreneurs, and fulfils critical and growing need-gaps. Said Mr Deepak Seth, chairman, Little People Education Society, during in his message while the MoU was being signed: With the launching of DBA, PSB hoped to fill the scarcity of trained faculty in management education.

The eligibility for this course is MBA/EMBA from recognized academic institutions with a minimum of 7 years of experience at an executive and managerial level.Said Dr Bhupatkar: The doctoral degree for successful candidates in India would be awarded by AIT.

Besides DBA, PSB will also offer the two more programs from this academic session. Dr Bhupatkar said, Here, we are offering two more programs which include a two-year full-time Master in Business Administration (MBA) and an 18-month Executive Masters in Business Administration (EMBA) The MBA and EMBA certificates for successful candidates in India would be awarded by Britains Nottingham Trent University and Bostons Babson College. We have already tied up with them.

PSB will have a built up area of 48000 sq. ft. It plans to take in 140 students in the first year: 60 each for the full time MBA and the Executive MBA and 20 for DBA program. Dr Bhupatkar said, This will be only our city campus as we are planning to establish our main campus at another place. We are yet to finalize the place.
