Aspirants would surely find the CAT 2014 registration process more ‘user friendly’ as the guidelines are more clear and substantial changes have also been incorporated in the registration process for CAT 2014. Aspirants will find a video on CAT website with all the required details and instructions to complete the registration process. The three steps registration process is free from any technical glitches.

If the aspirants keep the required information ready, the registration process may not take much time. The check list and process for registration till CAT 2013 was different but CAT 2014 has modified it.

Let us know the 5 key aspirant friendly changes and modifications in the registration process in CAT 2014 as compared to earlier CAT 2013

No need to go for early registration

Aspirants who register during the 56 days registration window will be treated at par in CAT 2014 as against the earlier CAT years’ registration process when the aspirants could select the test date, city and test centre along with the preferred session. There was always a fear of not getting the preferred test centre and session, if the registration process was not completed early.

CAT 2014 doesn’t allow any self scheduling of the test and the aspirants will be informed of the test date, one of the 3 preferred test cities selected by the aspirant, test centre and the test session by the testing agency TCS on October 16, 2014.  So there is no fear of not getting the preferred test city or centre now if you do not register early.

No time bound filling up of Application

CAT 2014 Application form can be filled up in parts till you click on submit button. Earlier it was a time bound process with 20-30 minutes. Aspirants should read the instructions at the start of the form before they begin filling the information. They can Save and exit the form any number of times to edit and complete it later or can Save & Continue each section till they submit the application.

But, if mandatory information is not filled or the required Certificates are not uploaded, candidate will not be allowed to continue. Besides after clicking on submit button, changes to any information provided on the application form are not possible. A candidate can only print or save the form from the website after that.

Pay the fee when you complete the Application

Probably this is the greatest positive change in CAT 2014 registration process. In earlier CAT years, aspirants had to purchase the CAT vouchers first, on-line or off-line, and then only were they allowed to proceed for registration. In case you committed any mistake during the registration or application process, you money would go down the drain.

Keeping in view this embarrassing and disappointing situation which used to be much criticized by CAT aspirants, CAT 2014 has placed the exercise of making the on-line payment as the last step of filling up the form. This change will enable the aspirants to review the accuracy of the filled up details in their application form before making the payment.

Need of Scanned images of photo & Signature

CAT 2014 will issue the admit card to you on October 16, 2014 and will send the same to you on your registered mail id. Unlike earlier CAT when you got your admit card without photograph and signature in 24 hours of  completion of registration process, CAT 2014 has made it mandatory to upload your scanned passport photo and signature at the time of registration.

The photo and signature apart from being kept in record with the testing IIM and testing agency are proposed to be used on your digital admit cards, the prints of which you will have to take from your mail after October 16, 2014. Please note, it will be a mandatory document to appear in CAT 2014.

Scanned image of Passport size photo with the dimensions 35mm X 45mm along with the scanned image of your signature with the dimensions 1000mm X 35 mm. is required to be uploaded at the time of registration for CAT 2014. Please note that the documents file format should be .jpg or .jpeg and the file size should not be more than 80KB each. The image should be clear with a minimum resolution of 150px.

Opportunity to select the PI city

CAT 2014 has provided the opportunity to the aspirants to choose the interview city at the time of registration.  The Interview City can be selected from the respective drop down list.

Candidates applying for PGP/PGDM courses at the following IIMs should select the same interview city for all the selections- 1) IIM Kashipur, 2) IIM Raipur, 3) IIM Ranchi, 4) IIM Rohtak, 5) IIM Tiruchirappalli, 6) IIM Udaipur

Understand with example

Iif you have selected the PGDM course at IIM Ranchi and the PGP course at IIM  Kashipur, your interview city should be the same, say Chennai, from the given choices (Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai) for both the courses.

Registration also open for proposed 6 IIMs

Government of India has proposed six new IIMS in the country one each in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar, Odisha, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. CAT 2014 has also provided the opportunity to the Interested candidates to also choose Post Graduate Programmes (PGP) in these new locations, under the section ‘Apply to the Proposed New Six IIMs’ in the application form.  MBAUniverse.com has already discussed in detail about opening of these new IIMs http://www.mbauniverse.com/article/id/7849/CAT-2014-exam-registration

It means these IIMs will also begin functioning from the session 2015-16 although initially they may conduct the courses from some borrowed campuses.
